On the afternoon of August 2, Beijing time, the swimming competition of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games continued at the La Défense Stadium. A total of four preliminaries will be held this afternoon, including three individual events and one team relay event, namely the men's 100m butterfly, women's 200m individual medley, women's 800m freestyle and 4x100m medley relay. Chinese athletes participated in all four events, including Yu Yiting and Ye Shiwen in the women's 200m individual medley and advanced to the semifinals, and the Chinese team in the 4x100m medley relay advanced to the finals. Sun Jiajun and Wang Changhao in the men's 100-meter butterfly, and Li Bingjie in the women's 800-meter freestyle, unfortunately stopped in the preliminaries and missed the qualification.
In the men's 100m butterfly preliminaries, Sun Jiajun and Wang Changhao represented the Chinese team. Sun Jiajun swam 51.85 seconds and Wang Changhao swam 52.37 seconds, and the two won the first and seventh places in the group respectively. In the overall ranking, Sun Jiajun and Wang Changhao ranked 19th and 26th respectively, both of which stopped in the preliminaries. Hungary's Milak finished first in the heats, followed by Canada's Liendo and Switzerland's Ponti.
In the women's 200-meter individual medley preliminaries, Chinese players Ye Shiwen and Yu Yiting participated. Teenager Yu Yiting played well, swimming 2:10.28 to win the second place in the group and the second place overall; Veteran Ye Shiwen finished second in the group with a time of 2:10.96 and eighth overall. The duo advanced to the next semi-finals together. In the overall preliminary rankings, Canada's McIntosh ranked first, and United States's Walsh finished third.
In the women's 800-meter freestyle preliminaries, Chinese player Li Bingjie competed. Li Bingjie finished sixth in the group and ninth overall with a time of 8:27.92, unfortunately missing the qualification (a total of 8 places in the final). United States' Ledecky and Madden finished in the top two, with Australia's Titmass third.
In the preliminaries of the 4x100m medley relay, the Chinese relay team competed in the second group of 4 lanes. The Chinese team sent Xu Jiayu, Tang Qianting, Zhang Yufei and Pan Zhanle to the luxurious lineup, and they played well with a time of 3:42.26, winning the second place in the group and the third place overall, and successfully advanced to the final. United States finished first in the preliminary round and Australia second.
