1. Introduction: GIGABYTE's first 1000W Platinum certified power supply
Over the years, the power consumption of processors and high-end graphics cards has become higher and higher, with the i9-14900K easily exceeding 360W at full load, and the RTX 4090 also consumes 450W of the whole card.
For gamers who want to build a top-of-the-line gaming platform, a power rating of less than 1000W seems a bit unreasonable.
As a traditional board manufacturer, GIGABYTE has also been actively expanding its power supply product line in recent years, with the previous launch of the UD1000GM PG5 Gold Power Supply, and the recent launch of the Platinum Eagle 1000PG5 is GIGABYTE's first power supply to receive the 80PLUS Platinum certification.
The GIGABYTE Platinum Eagle 1000PG5 power supply is fully modular and 80PLUS Platinum certified, achieving an efficiency of 93% under typical load conditions, which has surpassed the standard of 80PLUS Platinum power supplies.
In terms of workmanship, the platinum eagle 1000PG5 adopts full-bridge LLC technology, and the internal capacitors are all-Japanese, including a Japan Nippon Chemi-Con KMW main capacitor, with a specification of 400V/1000μF, which can withstand 105 degrees of high temperature.
The power supply is powered by +12VHPWR without the need for an adapter cable, and the +12VHPWR is rated at 600W, with 10% redundancy on top of the power supply capacity.
Not to mention the RTX 4090, even the future RTX 5090 will be able to handle it easily.
For heat dissipation, it is equipped with a 12cm Fluid Power Bearing (FDB) smart fan that intelligently stops when the load is below 50% (500W).
But even at 1000W full load, its noise does not exceed 25 decibels.

As a 1000W platinum power supply, the dimensions of the platinum eagle 1000PG5 are 150mm× 140mm×86mm (width x length x height).
This size is much narrower than most power supplies of the same power, especially the 140mm length, which can be compatible with most chassis on the market.
The Platinum Eagle 1000PG5 is equipped with a 12cm Fluid Power Bearing (FDB) smart fan.
We got a black version, but there was also a white version to choose from.
The power supply nameplate indicates the output specifications at various voltages, the most important of which is that it supports a single channel 12V/83.3A, and the output power of a single channel can reach 1000W, which can be connected to all current desktop graphics cards and processors.
Fully modular design.
There are a total of 6 CPU/GPU 8PIN power ports on the left, which can be connected to 4 high-end graphics cards.
In the middle is a 12VHPWR power supply interface, which can output 600W of power, and can natively support RTX 4080/4090 without an adapter cable.
There are also 3 sets of SATA power cord power supply ports on the right, and 18+8Pin motherboard power supply ports on the lower right.
Power supply side.
The included cable can be connected to all the power supply ports on the power supply.
The length of the wire is as follows:
M/B 24Pin x1;650mm
CPU 8Pin x2 :700mm
2xPCIe(6+2)Pin x1:600+150mm
1xPCIe(6+2)Pin x3:750mm
4xSATA x2:600+150+150+150mm(一共8个SATA接口)
4x大4Pin:500+150+150+150mm
12VHPWR x1:700mm
The internal PCB circuit board of the power supply is compact and neatly arranged, and a large number of solid-state capacitors and Japanese electrolytic capacitors are used.
The main capacitors and electrolytic capacitors of all Japanese series can withstand high temperature of 105 degrees Celsius and high voltage of 420V, and can work stably in harsh environments.

Separate DC-DC converters, both 3.3V and 5V are converted from a 12V supply.
With this converter, Gold Power can achieve a conversion efficiency of more than 92%.
The main transformer, model "MS4220ER-XQ3", uses a 44 core.
3. Performance test: typical load conversion efficiency 93% Full load 1000W voltage offset is only 1%
1. Voltage offset test
For users, in addition to the conversion efficiency, one of the most important parameters of the power supply is the voltage offset value.
If the output voltage of the power supply is too high, the output voltage will be low to a certain extent (usually more than 10%), and the input current will continue to increase in order to meet the power demand of the hardware, and eventually the hardware will be burned.
In this regard, Intel's standard for power supplies is that the upper limit of the voltage offset value cannot exceed 5%.
The GIGABYTE Platinum Eagle 1000PG5 goes from a minimum of 20% load to a maximum of 110% of the load, with a maximum voltage offset of only 1%, which is the highest voltage offset even among platinum-certified power supplies.
+5V is primarily used to power USB, but it can also power certain circuits in hard drives, optical drives, and motherboards. In the test, the maximum offset value was 0.4%, which is an excellent performance.
The voltage of 5Vsb is a power pass-through peripheral, which is mainly used to supply power to the USB interface, and the corresponding USB interface can still work even if the power is turned off. The power supply voltage offset of Platinum Eagle 1000PG5 is controlled within 0.4% throughout the process.
2. Conversion efficiency test
In the 220V/50Hz mains environment, in addition to the 100W low load, the GIGABYTE Platinum Eagle 1000PG5 power supply has a conversion efficiency of more than 92% almost the whole time, and at 60% load, the conversion efficiency reaches 93.3%, which has surpassed the 80PLUS Platinum standard.
3. RTX 4090 baking machine test
We used Furmark to bake the RTX 4090 with a full load for 36 minutes, and the power consumption of the whole card stabilized around 450W, and we can see that the voltage of the PCIe slot is stable at 12V, and the voltage of the 12VHPWR 16Pin graphics card power supply interface is 11.9V.
4. 12VHPWR 16Pin power supply line temperature test
We used Furmark to bake the RTX 4090 for half an hour, and we can see that the maximum temperature of the graphics card is 64 degrees, and the temperature of the 12VHPWR 16Pin power supply interface is 61 degrees, which is completely impossible to melt the power supply interface.
4. Summary: Excellent mute How can I avoid burning the card of RTX 4090
The GIGABYTE Platinum Eagle 1000PG5 power supply gives us the biggest feeling of silence. During a few days of use, the power supply fan is in a stalled state in most cases.
This is also partly due to the extremely high conversion efficiency of the power supply itself! Platinum Eagle 1000PG5 can ensure 93% conversion efficiency under the load of 500~700W, and the power of other loads almost all exceeds 92% (except for loads below 10%).
Higher conversion efficiency means less power loss, and less heat is generated, so the platinum eagle 1000PG5 can achieve fan shutdown under a load of less than 500W, achieving a complete zero noise experience.
For the use of power supplies, it is especially important to be able to provide a stable voltage of 12V. When the PCIe port voltage is too low, it is easy to overload the high current, which can cause the computer to reboot or damage the graphics card.
GIGABYTE Platinum Eagle 1000PG5 can ensure that the voltage is stable around 12V in 10~110% of the power output, and the maximum offset will not exceed 1%, so the stable voltage can not only ensure the stable operation of the system, but also ensure the safety of the hardware.
As for the RTX 4090 power supply line burn-in problem, we did a half-hour Furmark baking test at 28 degrees at room temperature, and the power consumption of the GPU has been maintained at more than 440W.
The measured surface temperature of the graphics card can reach up to 67 degrees, while the temperature of the power supply interface is less than 62 degrees, which is absolutely safe for the interface of the 12VHPWR 16Pin power supply cable.
Please note that we are conducting tests under an open platform. If the oven is carried out inside the chassis and there is no good air duct, the heat around the graphics card cannot be discharged out of the chassis in time, resulting in the internal temperature of the chassis reaching more than 50 degrees.
Therefore, for gamers with RTX 4090, if you want to ensure the long-term safe operation of this graphics card with a TGP of up to 450W, you must do a good job of the case air duct to drain the huge heat generated by the CPU and GPU in time.
