Netherlands-based superyacht manufacturer Holterman Shipyard has reportedly been declared bankrupt and is under investigation into takeovers by potential investors. The shipyard, which has been in operation for almost 30 years, has faced significant financial challenges in recent years, with on-site work in Meppel suspended for several weeks.
The director, Rienk de Vries, confirmed to the local news outlet that the shipyard has been in the red since 2022 due to the lack of new orders and the rise in aluminum prices.
Director Holterman said, "Orders are falling. "The orders needed to fill the gap were not fulfilled. Yes, the matter ended quickly. Netherlands media sources say that the Holterman's construction workshop has been emptied and there are no ships in production.
Mr Vries added that the shipyard is currently considering a takeover option and one of the potential candidates has already been proposed. "We will use the next few days to see if the baton can be passed to others, preferably with as many staff as possible," he said.
Holterman was originally founded in 1964 by Johannes Holterman, who passed the company to his son, Robbert Holterman, in 1993. The company had previously experienced financial difficulties, declaring bankruptcy in 2012 but successfully restarted the following year.
"Lady Fleur".
Robbert later expanded the yacht brand X-Treme to 33 metres in length, including the Lady Fleur, a former winner of the International Yacht Design and Innovation Award and World Superyacht Award nominee. The yacht is equipped with a revolutionary integrated swimming pool capable of raising and lowering the floor to fill the seawater, and can be used as a feedboat storage deck and launching platform when not in use.

Earlier this year, Holterman unveiled the first and second members of the X78 flybridge superyacht series, and in June the shipyard also unveiled a new 29-metre all-aluminium wide-body X-Treme yacht collection, called the X-95, as well as an official conversion division called Holterman Refit.
