Khrushchev, the first state guest who stayed in Diaoyutai, said for the last time: The bathtub in the state guesthouse is too small

Mysterious forbidden place Diaoyu Tai

Diaoyutai on Beijing's Sanli River was once a mysterious forbidden place. With the pace of reform and opening up, it is increasingly famous at home and abroad.

One day at the end of the last century, the author had the opportunity to come here for an interview, and I was fortunate to see its "beauty......

When we walk into this garden covering an area of 420,000 square meters, with 15 villas and 70,000 square meters of lake, we can't help but be impressed by the artistic characteristics of the classical Chinese gardens here - the mountains wear pavilions and the water surrounds the pavilions, the ancient trees are dense, the green grass is like grass, the stone bridge path, the turquoise spring is not quiet. 15 relatively independent villas, typical of ancient Chinese architecture, are located in flower beds and lawns. It is set off and relied on with the artificial lakes, bridges and pavilions built. It has become an art masterpiece with traditional garden style. The ring tower is surrounded by scenery, and from every window in the building, you can see the beautiful scenery of ancient Chinese gardens.

Coming to the No. 18 Presidential Building, it is even more breathtaking, the appearance is elegant and luxurious, and a pair of gilded bronze lions that have been lost from the Old Summer Palace for many years and returned to China sit on both sides of the gate. The presidential suite inside is completely Chinese design and antique; The imitation Ming-style decoration and furniture are quite royal style.

When you come to Diaoyutai, you must go to Fangfei Garden. This is the largest building in the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, with the most complete site and functions. The Grand Ballroom can accommodate four or five hundred people. The place is luxuriously lit, and the view from the three glass walls is pleasant, with green grass and pleasant scenery. The dedicated conference hall is second to none among the hotels. Large-scale talks such as negotiations on the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and South Korea and the signing ceremony were held here. And the large lawn outside Fangfei Garden is a scene of Diaoyutai. Holding an open-air event for three or four thousand people here naturally has a special atmosphere.

Diaoyutai also has to see the Yangyuan Zhai, here is the main palace of the Qianlong Emperor of the Qing Dynasty to build the palace, "Yangyuan Zhai" three words are also inscribed by the Qianlong Emperor. The banquet hall is splendid, and the grandson of the Qianlong Emperor is hung on the two pillars to copy his calligraphy "Youhuaituo Spring Stone, Joy is in Sangma", which is very royal style. The meeting hall is antique, decorated with thread-bound ancient books and Mr. Qigong's handwritten predecessors singing Diaoyutai poems, highlighting the cultural color in simplicity.

Now, Yangyuanzhai, which embodies the royal style, is a place for important meetings and banquets. Comrade Deng Xiaoping's last official foreign affairs banquet -- the banquet for United States President Ronald Reagan -- was held here.

In addition, Diaoyutai Building 12 can not be ignored, the living room is splendid, and it is even more majestic under the backdrop of Liu Haisu's huge Chinese painting "The Mountains and Rivers". The Four Seasons Hall is tall and bright, with rockeries, streams, springs, ponds and various precious flowers and trees. Its presidential suites have lived in Khrushchev and Reagan. Former United Kingdom Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher particularly loved this building, and after leaving office, she still asked to stay here when she visited Beijing.

……

However, the Diaoyutai is not so famous among Beijing's pavilions and pavilions because of its architecture and beauty. In the author's opinion, there are three reasons for this:

The first is its long history. As early as 800 years ago, Emperor Zhangzong of the Jin Dynasty used to fish here, and it was called Diaoyutai at that time. Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty dredged Yuyuan Lake into a lake, and the Qianlong Emperor ordered to repair the pedestal, and inscribed the three words "Diaoyutai". After Emperor Qianlong built it into a palace, it became more royal and magnificent. It can be seen that hundreds of years ago, Diaoyutai was a mysterious place.

The second is the status of the state guesthouse. In the summer of 1958, when the CPC Central Committee held an enlarged meeting of the Politburo, it studied matters related to the celebration of the 10 th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. Considering that many foreign heads of state would come, it was decided to build a state guesthouse in Diaoyutai, and the main designer was the famous Chinese architect Zhang Kaiji (who was also responsible for the design of the Museum of the Chinese Revolution and the Museum of Chinese History).

On the eve of the National Day in 1959, the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse was officially completed, and there were more than a dozen buildings at that time, and in order to respect the habits of foreigners, there was no number of buildings 1 and 13.

Since the State Guesthouse was built and opened for the first time to receive the first secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, Nikita Khrushchev, more than 700 visiting presidents and heads of government have stayed here. United States Presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan, Secretary of State Henry Kissinger, United Kingdom Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, North Korean Prime Minister Kim Il Sung and Viet Nam leader Ho Chi Minh have all left their footprints here.

At the same time, world-class businessmen and world-renowned personalities have also stayed here many times: the late Mr. Hammer, chairman of the United States Occidental Petroleum Company, was a frequent visitor here; United States senior executives of many world-famous companies such as Morgan Group, Netherlands Shell, Sweden Ericsson, etc., have lived here......

It is also an important place for state leaders to conduct foreign affairs activities. Many world-shaking events are planned and decided here. Some important meetings during the period of socialist construction were also held here, and many important news were released here.

In addition, there is a special reason - during the "Cultural Revolution", it was the office of the "Central Cultural Revolution". During this period, many major events that shocked China and the rest of the world were inextricably linked to Diaoyutai, such as the "Yang Yufu Incident" caused by the so-called "storming of Diaoyutai" and the "720 Incident" in Wuhan. When Mao Zedong criticized the "Gang of Four," he once told the Politburo members that "there is no fish to catch in Diaoyutai" and asked Chen Yonggui and others to move out of Diaoyutai. And those real revolutionaries used different ways to fight against the "Diaoyutai" unyieldingly......

As time passed, Diaoyutai became more and more of a place of world attention, and its mystery became more and more intense. Let's slowly lift its veil and get to know one after another people related to it.

Khrushchev, the first state guest who stayed in Diaoyutai, said for the last time: The bathtub in the state guesthouse is too small

Report 1:

Khrushchev, the first state guest to live in Diaoyutai

☆ After the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse was repaired, the first guest of honor was Khrushchev

☆ Relations between China and the Soviet Union can be said to have been very good when Khrushchev first visited China

☆ In order to engage in a great debate with Khrushchev, Diaoyutai set up a writing group, which brought the anti-revision to a climax

☆ Sino-Soviet relations were full of grievances and grievances, and the final rupture stemmed from the unequal relationship when it was friendly

Diaoyutai Building 18, also known as the Presidential Building, was the center of the State Guesthouse at that time. The first head of state it received was Khrushchev, First Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union and Chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR.

Khrushchev, who came to China for the third and last time, stayed in Building 18 of the Great Eaves and complained to Mayor Peng Zhen at the time: "The bathtub in the State Guesthouse is too small."

At that time, people wondered how the bathtubs in the state guesthouse were all made to order according to the large size, and how could Khrushchev, who was only 1.68 meters tall, be too small? Perhaps, at this time, he already had a bad view of China in all aspects, so he found fault with it.

The name Khrushchev is not at all foreign to Chinese. Especially during the "Cultural Revolution", a famous quote by Mao Zedong made his name even more impressive in the minds of the Chinese. Mao Zedong said: "Khrushchev-like figures sleep right next to us."

With the passage of time, people's memories have gradually faded, and the old man of history has also told people many truths. Khrushchev was, after all, Khrushchev, after all, the No. 1 leader of a great power.

Whether they are Marxists or revisionists, they are all gone. It seems that we can write about them again today to be closer to the truth, closer to the true face of history.

Mao Zedong and Khrushchev represented the interests of different countries and nations, and each had different personalities, which doomed them to all kinds of conflicts. But their conflict is not only because of their different personalities, but also because of many things other than their personalities......
