Kunming, October 12 (Xinhua) -- French President Emmanuel Macron said at the 15th Summit of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity on the 12th that the earth is sick and human beings will not be healthy, and hopes that the conference held in Kunming, China, can adopt the "ambitious" "post-2020 global biodiversity framework" to help the international community better cope with challenges.
In his video message, Macron thanked President Xi Jinping for personally promoting the issue of biodiversity conservation and looked forward to attending the second phase of the conference offline next year. He said that the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the parties to the Convention to convene the conference in a combination of online and offline, which also allows us to see once again that human health, economic prosperity, collective security and a good natural environment are closely related.
As long as human beings want to continue to live on the earth, he said, they must stop destroying nature and live in harmony with it. The international community must promote synergy, respect for nature and the protection and restoration of ecosystems.
The fifteenth Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity is scheduled to be held in two phases, from 11 to 15 and in the first half of 2022. Phase I will complete consideration of topics other than the Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework, which will be considered and decided at Phase II.
