On the 16th local time, under a bridge connecting Texas in the United States with the Mexican state of Coahuila, tens of thousands of illegal immigrants from Haiti and other countries gathered.
On the morning of the 16th, about 8,200 immigrants had gathered under the "Del Rio Transnational Bridge" on the Texas-MEXICO border, and by the evening of the same day, the number of migrants stranded under the bridge had increased to 10,503. The camps under the bridge were in poor condition, with no food or drink, and hundreds of illegal immigrants even waded back to Mexico to stockpile groceries. They said that the US side did not provide them with any basic living supplies.
Now, Texas Gov. Albert has ordered the closure of six ports of entry along the state's U.S.-Mexico border in response to the illegal immigration crisis. Abbott said he has directed the state government and the state National Guard to increase law enforcement and patrol vehicles to stop illegal immigrants from continuing to cross the border into Texas. The Republican governor said border enforcement officers had been "overwhelmed by chaos" because of too much illegal immigration. He also again slammed the Biden administration for "ignoring border security."
Since the Biden administration took office earlier this year, it has canceled many of the tough immigration policies of its predecessor, but it has also led to a surge in illegal immigration along the U.S.-Mexico border. Take the "Del Rio Transnational Bridge" as an example, a week ago, there were only about 700 illegal immigrants gathered under the bridge, and by the 16th local time, it had surged to tens of thousands.
Local city officials said the makeshift camp under the bridge had little clean water and food, only a few mobile toilets and poor sanitary conditions. The situation of large numbers of anxious and nervous illegal migrants crowded together, hot weather and dirty environments has constituted a humanitarian crisis.
On the 16th, the FEDERAL Aviation Administration also ordered a ban on drones flying over the area on the grounds of "special safety reasons" to prevent the media from filming "illegal immigrants gathering in large numbers and the camp environment is dirty and messy".
