Rooted in mountain education Warm poor students - Cao Guodong, principal and branch secretary of Sungai Town Center School in Jichenggu County

author:Shaanxi education

Shuangxi Town, Chenggu County, Hanzhong City, is located in the depths of the Qinling Mountains, the economic development is backward, the living conditions of the masses are generally poor, there are many poor students and left-behind children in the Lika family, and the healthy growth of the children has always touched the heart of Cao Guodong, the principal of the Shuangxi Town Center School, and has also become the focus of his school work.

When registration began in the spring of March 3, 2018, Jiang Tao, a ninth-grade student, did not register on time. It is understood that his father sent Jiang Tao to work in a restaurant in Hanzhong on February 27. The reason is that Jiang Tao has poor academic performance in school, does not have any hope for learning, does not want to continue to go to school, and does not want to go to vocational school, so parents obey the wishes of students, find a way for them, send them to learn crafts, and increase income for the family.

After many telephone communications, parents have always been reluctant to send Jiang Tao back to school to register for enrollment. Principal Cao Guodong immediately led the class teacher, help teachers and others to drive to Fujiayuan Village, 13 kilometers away from the school, to explain the harm of students dropping out of school for Jiang Tao's parents, repeatedly emphasized the importance of education for students' growth and adaptation to contemporary society, and mobilized parents to send students back to school. But the parents were still indifferent.

On March 13, when the persuasion of his parents was ineffective, Cao Guodong rushed to Hanzhong and traveled to many places in the city, found Jiang Tao, who was working, and persuaded him to return to school in person. After more than two hours of patient persuasion, Jiang Tao's attitude finally changed, but whether he went to school or not had to be decided by his parents.

Jiang Tao's failure to return to school on time touched the hearts of every leader and teacher. On March 15, Zhao Xigang, secretary of the party group and director of the Chenggu County Education and Sports Bureau, asked village cadres to immediately do a good job of persuading students who had dropped out of school to return, and arranged for the cadres of the village-based task force and the school to continue to do a good job in parents' ideological work, and strive to let parents take students back to school as soon as possible. With the joint efforts of many parties, on March 18, Jiang Tao finally returned to school and continued to complete his junior high school studies. The brief dropout was just two weeks after the start of school. Cao Guodong's dangling heart finally fell.

In fact, in this remote mountain school, Jiang Tao is far more than the only student who dropped out of school. Zeng Li, a student from a problem family, had no interest in learning, was addicted to online games, had a poor sense of discipline, dropped out of school many times, and refused to return to school. There is also a sixth-grade student Chen Hongliang, due to physical obesity, lack of family education, there are some psychological diseases such as inferiority, sensitivity, lack of security at a young age, and serious boredom, and many excuses are not available to school. When Principal Cao Guodong learned about these problems, he was always relieved, visited his home many times, interviewed students and parents, and advised students to return to school. With his efforts, Zeng Li, Chen Hongliang and other students successfully returned to school and continued to study.

Many local students' parents do not have a high level of education and simple educational methods, resulting in insufficient motivation and weak will for students. Therefore, Cao Guodong regards guiding students to be inspired and diligent as the focus of school education and poverty alleviation work. Combined with reality, Sungai Town Center School has written "self-improvement, unity of knowledge and action" as the core spirit of the school into the school's "one training and three winds" and school song, calling on students to work hard, work hard, learn to have a look, learn to have goals, and learn effectively. The school has also carried out a series of educational activities around this spirit, such as repeated interpretation and advocacy, various forms of recitation, essay competitions, and selection of "self-improvement stars". The ongoing efforts have ended up yielding good results. At present, the students' mental outlook has undergone great changes, their interest in learning has become stronger, their learning momentum has become more sufficient, and their grades have improved greatly.

For students from poor families, Cao Guodong not only pays attention to spiritual encouragement, but also strives for social support for them. Kindergarten student Zhang Ruiming was admitted to the intensive care unit due to acute pneumonia, and suddenly had to come up with 200,000 yuan in medical expenses, which was difficult for parents. He took out 200 yuan in cash and handed it to the parents, and helped parents apply for an account on the "love fundraising" platform, raise social funds, and timely released a message in the circle of friends, calling on friends to donate money to the child for treatment. With the assistance of many parties, a part of the funds were raised to solve some of the difficulties of the students' families, so that the students received effective treatment and smoothly escaped from danger. In order to let more students in difficulty get funding, he actively contacted social welfare organizations such as the Shaanxi Charity Association and the Hanzhong Volunteer Association to donate money to the school. Braving the severe cold and heat, regardless of the deep and deep roads of the mountains and ravines, he always personally led the staff to visit every household, hoping to reduce the economic burden for poor families. In the past two years, more than 10 organizations and units have donated shoes, clothing, school bags, sporting goods, daily necessities, etc. to 300 poor students in primary and secondary schools and kindergartens, and social benevolent people have provided long-term financial support to 30 students with special families.

In the long-term relationship with the students, Cao Guodong deeply felt the cuteness of the mountain students, and also deeply sympathized with the mountain children who lacked family education and stayed alone, which aroused his strong sense of responsibility for promoting the local people to get rid of poverty as soon as possible through education. He hopes to use his enthusiasm and love to create good conditions for children in mountainous areas to help them grow up healthy and strong. He was determined to sprinkle all his efforts into the depths of the Qinling Mountains on this great shore, take root in the mountainous areas, run schools well, set an example by example, practice what he preached, and shoulder the glorious mission of education and poverty alleviation.
