Kidnapping the general of the Self-Defense Forces, giving a failed speech and committing suicide, the writer's life is too legendary for the Japanese literary star, the absurd kidnapping of the three-time nomination for the Nobel Prize in Literature, and the messy suicide scene

On November 25, 1970, the Japanese Self-Defense Forces Command came with three people. They were introduced to the division commander, General Masuda.

The general marveled at the beauty of their uniforms and became curious about one of them. This man had thick eyebrows and big eyes, and was equipped with a long sword. The general asked if the sword was allowed to be brought in, and the other side calmly drew the sword out of its sheath, explaining that it was a sword with a license.

Suddenly, the 2 people accompanying him jumped up, one grabbed General Masuda, and one covered his nose and mouth, and quickly tied him up.

Obviously, this was a premeditated plan. The man who led the kidnapping was the man with the sword, the famous Japanese writer Yukio Mishima.

Does he have any deep hatred with the Japanese Self-Defense Forces? Why was this action planned?

Yukio Mishima was born in 1925 in Yotsuya-ku, Tokyo, and his real name was Kowei Hiraoka.

Mishima showed great literary talent from an early age. From the age of 14, he began writing novels and two years later completed his debut novel, The Forest of Flowers. His Chinese language teacher admired his literary talent and considered him a literary genius. So I strongly recommended him to submit articles, and his works were serialized in "Literary and Art Culture" and received high praise.

At that time, everyone was optimistic about him, thinking that he was a rising star in the Japanese literary world.

Perhaps surrounded by applause and flowers from childhood, the confidence that literature brought to him gradually twisted into an extreme narcissism. He believes that the works he has written will be welcomed and recognized by the whole world.

But Mishima was wrong. Since Japan's unconditional surrender in World War II, the Japanese people have begun to reflect on the significance of war, and the ideas of anti-war, anti-authority, and anti-Japanese-American imperial alliances have occupied the mainstream of Japanese society. However, Mishima advocates bushido main war, lord obedience and sacrifice, and maintenance of the emperor, which is incompatible with mainstream society.

More crucially, Yukio Mishima was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature three times, but yasunari Kawabata, who was also a teacher and friend of him, won the honorary trophy. This was a huge blow to Yukio Mishima.

So under the bitterness, he began to show the beauty of the male flesh very enthusiastically. Because Mishima was surrounded by women in his childhood, this lack of male factors made Mishima feel inexplicably excited and longing for male men.

He believes that there is only one time in life, and we must cherish the short and impermanent body and exercise and sculpt.

From the age of 30, he had plans to start a body modification program. Therefore, compared with the feminine painting style of other Japanese writers, Mishima has created a very masculine writer's image, and he is liked by many people because of this.

However, Mishima's heart is moving more and more towards the dark cage. He was not understood by the people around him, and he had to comfort and deceive himself:

Not being understood has become my only pride. So I don't have the urge to be understood and behaved. I don't think fate has given me anything that can wake my eyes.

Mishima saw the Japanese people singing day and night, drunk and dreaming of death, everyone only knew pleasure, listening to brisk jazz dance music, drinking Western whiskey, even the army had no fighting spirit, he felt sad, the Japanese lost their traditional souls, sooner or later will go to destruction.

In 1968, he organized a secret armed force, the Shield Society, which claimed to preserve the spirit of traditional Japanese Bushido and defend the emperor.

In 1970, Mishima and his companions did a big thing, an earth-shattering event, to wake up the sleeping Japanese. So there is a scene at the beginning of the kidnapping of the commander of the Japanese Self-Defense Forces division.

When they heard the noise of General Masuda's office, the aide-de-camps surrounded the room in an attempt to rescue Masuda. But Mishima was prepared, and he handed out a note from under the office door stating his request:

(1) Before 12 noon, assemble the entire Eastern Front of the Ground Self-Defense Forces in front of the Superintendent's Building;

(2) Listen quietly to Mishima's speeches and brief statements from four trainees;

(3) Gather the shield members who are assembled at the Ichigu Kaikan to listen to the speeches of Mishima and four other people at the meeting place;

(4) From 11:00 to 13:10, no strong action or interference shall be taken. Otherwise, Mishima would immediately kill the division commander and commit suicide by cutting his abdomen.

Fearing for Masuda's safety, the Self-Defense Forces acceded to Mishima's request and gathered the soldiers in front of the Superintendent's Building.

When Mishima appeared on the balcony of Masuda's office, the crowd erupted in a commotion. Mishima began to give his own speech, but unfortunately the reality was not at all what he thought. No matter how incendiary his speeches were, no matter how much he called for the defense of the emperor, the soldiers downstairs were cursing and grinning, telling him to roll and release the division commander.

Mishima retreated into the room in despair, knowing that the coup had failed. He calmly unbuttoned his jacket, and he said only one sentence: "I don't think they even heard what I said." ”

Next, he committed suicide by cutting his abdomen, and his accomplices slashed three times to complete the whole ceremony.

Mishima has been pursuing beauty all his life, and the death he imagined is also full of poetry and beauty. But when he died, the scene was a mess and there was no poetry. This cannot but be said to be ironic.
