Harm and control of large and small nest insects

author:Pure farmer beekeeper

In recent years, the harm of small nest insects in the bee colony far exceeds the harm of large nest insects, and even can cause serious harm to the extinction of the group, many beekeepers only know that there are large nest insects, do not know that there are small nest insects, and as a result, after being victimized, they do not know what disease the bee colony causes harm, and they have been destroyed.

A large nest worm, its adult worms (commonly known as moths) are often in the bottom of the hive wax chips to lay eggs, hatching after the larvae to eat wax for a living, with the growth of the larvae to eat wax after a large increase, first eat the surrounding wax shavings, began to look for new wax sources, in the case of the bee sparse and difficult to protect the spleen, the big nest worm will take advantage of the deficiency into the nest spleen, followed by the silk protection, build their own base camp, because the big nest worm is under the sealed nest spleen to eat wax to harm the larvae, the bees are intolerable to it. However, most of the hazards of large nest insects are only in strips to harm the lid spleen, unless the harm is very serious, it will be a small area of harm to the lid spleen, but it is easy to find when checking the bees, you can please remove.

The second is the small nest insect, the small nest insect harms the bee for a long time, that is, in recent years, it has endangered the Italian bee swarm, and the small nest insect began to have the first bee to find the harm to the bee. Small nest worm moths not only lay eggs in the wax pile at the bottom of the box and in the gaps, but also lay eggs on the sparse nest spleen of the bees, and after the larvae hatch, they will be mothed from the bottom of the nest room to be mothed beeswax and begin to harm the sub-spleen of the cap, because the small nest worms are particularly small, as thick as the threads that seem to have women doing needlework and clothing work, and the people who keep bees are called cotton worms, bees and beekeepers are difficult to detect and eliminate, and the small nest worms will cause a large number of capped spleen larvae to be injured and die under the lid spleen. That is, the white-headed pupae found by our beekeepers in the early stage is the current strength of the early harm of the small nest insect, and when the fully formed larva is found to be black in the later stage, it proves that the larvae have died. With the development of small nest worms, there will be a large number of larvae that harm the sealing under the nest spleen, and finally a large number of pieces of white-headed pupae appear, when the small nest insect harms the spleen and the bee colony has reached its peak period, when the number of small nest worms harming the lid spleen larvae every day greatly exceeds the number of larvae capping, which means that the bee colony has entered the collapse of the swarm, so I have been sending articles to explain that the small nest insect harms the swarm three times far more than the reason for the large nest. This is a detailed record of my observations of the pest swarms of small nest insects in my last years.

How can we prevent and treat nest worms, both large and small? The best prevention method is to keep the bee colony strong all year round, keep the bee extra spleen, and often remove the wax chips at the bottom of the box, making it difficult for large and small wax moths to contact the nest spleen to lay eggs. The excess nest spleen is withdrawn in time, and the excess nest spleen is not taken in the past to put the excess nest spleen outside the bee plate to let the bees save the nest spleen.

In terms of drug treatment, through recent years, I have used nest worms to clear the effect of this film is good, hanging twice a year can basically control the harm of large and small nest worms to the bee colony, that is, in the spring with a weak group with half a piece, a strong group with a piece, in June and July to hang again, the bee colony will not be harmed by large and small nest worms throughout the year. Nest insect clear wood chips, without any side effects, and has no impact on the breeding and development of the swarm, friends can be completely assured to use.
