Zhao Lihong said that he has loved to read since he was a child, and his six years at Beijing East Road Primary School were the most reads in his life. Writing for many years, Zhao Lihong has not written her childhood in its entirety.

Until 10 years ago, he began to conceive of "Childhood River", which is a fictional novel, but the characters in it have real shadows, and the prototype of Xuedi is himself. The book tells that Xuedi grew up in the countryside, and suddenly one day his father took him to Shanghai, and his life was completely changed. Many of the plots in the novel are related to the river, which is the Suzhou River on the edge of Zhao Lihong's alma mater.

After the novel was published, it was loved by children, even adults, because it reminded them of their childhood, and the book was published less than 10 years ago and has been distributed in more than 1 million copies.

On the occasion of the centenary celebration of Zhao Lihong's alma mater, zhao Lihong's new library was named after the title of Zhao Lihong's book "Childhood River".
