After the past two seasons for the Rockets, Austin Rivers has reportedly decided to test the waters of the free agent market this offseason.
According to U.S. media marc J. Spears, Austin Rivers became a free agent after rejecting the player option for the 2020-21 season.
In fact, Rivers Jr. already mentioned his possible options last week:
'I love Houston, I love the Rockets, it's not that I don't want to play there, but overall, there are other situations where you should try to see if it can be a complement to other teams, I know I can do it.'
Rivers Jr. signed the Rockets to a two-year veteran base salary contract in July 2019, compared to just $2.37 million in this 2020-21 player option. As for Rivers Jr., he averaged 8.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 115 games for the Rockets, in addition to a 34.8% three-point shooting rate.
In addition to this, Arkansas guard Mason Jones is reportedly the player who lost the draft in 2020, and the Rockets have signed the young player so far.
According to ESPN correspondent Jonathan Giveini, Mason Jones and the Rockets reached a two-way contract.
Mason Jones is a 6-foot-5 (1.96) player who is good at switching offenses, and he also has good singles and shooting ability, but he doesn't have enough stable defensive ability.
Finally, the Rockets decided to implement the 2020-21 team option and keep David Nuwaba on an annual salary of $1.8 million.
David Nuwaba, 27, was signed by the Rockets in June, but Nuwaba has not played any games for the team since joining the Rockets.
