On November 9, 2021, the "Land of Shenzhou - Wu Linsheng Art Exhibition" opened on the third floor of the new museum of Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum. As one of the important figures of the New Jinling School, Mr. Wu Linsheng takes creation as a teacher and takes life as a model, and is a famous landscape painter of the Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Chinese Painting. Mr. Wu Linsheng studied painting with Mr. Fu Baoshi for more than 20 years, laying a deep foundation for landscape painting, inheriting, sorting out and studying Fu Baoshi's art theory and Chinese painting techniques, and contributing to the development of the new Jinling school. The "Shenzhou Dadi - Wu Linsheng Art Works Exhibition" can be traced back to the "Shenzhou Dadi - Wu Linsheng Painting Exhibition" sponsored by the Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum, the Jiangsu Branch of the China Artists Association and the Jiangsu Provincial Chinese Painting Institute for Mr. Wu Linsheng in 1986. 35 years later, as the 2021 National Fine Arts Collection and Donation Award Project, based on the 82 representative works of Wu Linsheng donated by Mr. Wu Qiang to the Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum, Mr. Wu Linsheng's artistic creation career and life course are combined to comprehensively present the overall style of his modern landscape painting, and to show the spirit of landscape painting that Mr. Wu Linsheng has realized in his natural sketching and life experience.
As an influential landscape painter in Jiangsu Province, field sketching is an important way for Mr. Wu Linsheng to collect creative materials and study natural mountains and rivers. It is through continuous walking into nature that Mr. Wu Linsheng fully embodies the painting characteristics of the New Jinling School in the creative process, and adheres to Mr. Fu Baoshi's artistic ideas in practice, and gradually becomes the backbone of the New Jinling School. On the road of creating landscape painting, Wu Linsheng follows Fu Baoshi's sketching ideas, understands ancient methods in sketching, explores new methods, creates his own methods, and perfects the self-language expression of landscape painting. Especially in the case of Mr. Wu Linsheng, who was transferred from Nanjing Normal University to Jiangsu Institute of Chinese Painting to concentrate on the creation of landscape painting, his landscape painting creation began to move towards the modern pioneering road of pursuing the ontological language of landscape painting, and sought innovation in landscape painting in sketching. Adhering to the principle of "searching for the Qifeng and playing the draft", Mr. Wu Linsheng used the brush to speak for the mountains and rivers, and gradually formed a magnificent and clean landscape painting style in the sketching creation, which contributed to the development of Jiangsu fine arts.
This "Shenzhou Land - Wu Linsheng Art Works Exhibition" traces the path of Mr. Wu Linsheng's transformation of landscape painting, and we have selected more than 100 masterpieces of Mr. Wu Linsheng's landscape paintings and sketches. It not only includes 82 works donated by Mr. Wu Qiang, the eldest son of Wu Lao, to the Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum, but also thanks to the National Art Museum of China, the Jiangsu Provincial Academy of Chinese Painting and the Zhejiang Provincial Art Museum for their strong support for this exhibition. The exhibition spans the footprints of Mr. Wu Linsheng's artistic creation for decades, and he has used his brush to speak for the mountains and rivers, and has created a large number of landscape paintings, such as "The Transformation of Heavenly Graben" of the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge, which expresses the heavy instrument of the country and the Nanjing Yangtze River Bridge; "Huangshan Workers' Sanatorium", which shows the new appearance of mountains and rivers and the smoke scenery of Huangshan Mountain; "Dujiangyan Happiness Pavilion" which expresses Sichuan Shengong and Jiangyan Shantao; and "Qianshan Zhenyigang Majestic" which shows Liaoning Qianling and Zhenyigang Jicui. The "Land of Shenzhou - Wu Linsheng Art Works Exhibition" not only revitalizes the collection of Jiangsu Provincial Art Museum, but also provides important information for constructing a complete chinese painting collection genealogy and studying the development of the New Jinling School, and then enriches the artistic characteristics of landscape painting and the artistic style of Jiangsu Xiongxiu in the collection and research of works in the art museum.
