On November 13, the construction ceremony of the Non-Human Primate Germplasm Resources and Model R&D Center Project was held in Yazhouwan Science and Technology City, Sanya City. The project will build an important base for experimental research in China by building an experimental animal resource platform, an international cooperation platform and an industrialization platform, and provide an open research and development platform for primate models of human diseases, and build an international technical platform and cooperation platform for biomedical research, vaccines and drug effect evaluation.
According to reports, the project has a land area of about 451 mu and a total construction area of about 66,700 square meters, and is scheduled to be completed in November 2023. Through institutional and mechanism innovation, the project will become an international first-class research platform, laboratory animal resource platform, international cooperation platform, industrialization platform and hospital cooperation platform, and become one of the important bases for biomedical experimental research in China and even internationally. At the same time, it will gradually expand the number of primates and reach the international laboratory animal standards, become a laboratory animal resource platform in line with international standards for clinical biomedical research in relevant research institutions at home and abroad, and carry out multidisciplinary interdisciplinary comprehensive research on primate biology and biomedicine through the establishment of international and domestic cooperation systems, and strive to promote immune response, cell survival and death regulation of major diseases such as AIDS vaccine and drug research and development, cardiovascular disease and tumor. Breakthroughs have been made in genetic correlation and embryonic stem cells, so that China's primate models and preclinical research have quickly reached the international first-class level.

Ye Lei, director of the Strategy and Investment Development Division of the Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City Administration, said that the completion of the project will play two important roles: one is to reserve the gene bank of non-human primates; the other is to provide a good platform for non-human primate and biomedical research, frontier direction and major breakthroughs. "We chose Sanya because sanya has superior natural conditions, which is conducive to the cultivation and breeding of non-human primate macaques, with good air and pleasant climate, and the macaques bred here will be very healthy." Ye Lei said.
It is understood that the establishment of a non-human primate platform is conducive to building a national strategic scientific and technological force and a strategic scientific and technological force in the field of non-human primate research. The research of non-human primate laboratory animals will greatly promote the development or breakthrough of the life science field, and the non-human primate laboratory animal resources will be an important strategic resource to promote the development of life sciences, overcome major human diseases, and protect life and health, and play an indispensable and important role in leading and supporting life science research, biotechnology innovation and biomedical industry development.
