At that time, Zhang Zuolin did not even shoot two shots at Gong Baotian, and when he wanted to shoot the third shot, Gong Baotian had already arrived behind him, "If I want the life of the Marshal, I am afraid that I don't need the Marshal to turn his head", from this, I can already see the strength of Gong Baotian, seeing the kung fu of this Great Inner Master, Zhang Dashuai was very impressed, so he appointed Gong Baotian as the inspector of the three eastern provinces and the chief coach of the Fengjun Army.
In the many incidents created by the Japanese, Gong Baotian repeatedly protected Zhang Zuolin to turn the danger into a disaster, in the spring of 1928, Zhang Dashuai ordered Gong Baotian to stay in Beiping Bao to protect Zhang Xueliang, and as a result, in the Huanggutun Incident, Zhang Zuolin was directly killed by the Japanese with explosives, and Gong Baotian who heard the news was very sad, he regretted that he did not go with the marshal, and later when Zhang Xueliang withdrew his troops and marched west, Gong Baotian resigned and returned to his hometown again.
