As Christmas approaches, auto factories in Europe have also opened holiday mode so that workers can reunite with their families and carry out regular maintenance of factories. This would have been a normal thing to do, but for Mercedes-Benz it was not.
Recently, Daimler, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz, announced that its Kecskemét plant in Hungary has ceased work on December 13 and will be on holiday until January 12, 2022, which will last for one month. It is reported that in addition to the Christmas holiday, the most important thing is the impact of the shortage of parts. However, during this period, the workers of the factory will continue to receive basic wages and subsidies, so their lives will not be greatly affected.
Mercedes EQB
Although the suspension of production has little impact on workers, the impact on Mercedes-Benz is not small. It is reported that the plant is mainly responsible for the production of several compact models of Mercedes-Benz, and this discontinuation will affect the EQB models such as the A-Class, B-Class, CLA and all EQB models, which only began mass production in October, and this suspension will inevitably delay the delivery of the pre-order for this model.
Mercedes-Benz plant in Kecskemét, Hungary
The Hungary-based Kecskemét plant was built in 2008 as Mercedes-Benz's first factory on the European continent outside of Germany and currently employs more than 4,000 workers. The plant started operations in 2012 and will produce 160,000 units in 2020. Constrained by a shortage of in-vehicle chips, the plant has been unable to function properly since Oct. 18, with only Scheduled Monday to Thursday. Previously, some institutions predicted that the problem of lack of cores would be difficult to fundamentally alleviate in 2022, and it may not return to normal until 2023. And this is certainly not good news for Mercedes-Benz.
