Collectibles are like a pot of good wine, and as time passes, the taste becomes more and more intense! In 2020, we introduced one of the rarest collaborative works in the European and American knife circles, and over time, some of the author's resumes of this work have also been upgraded; Edmond has become a member of AKI, and Barry has become the director of AKI, which undoubtedly adds more meaning to this work.
This unexpected surprise is also one of the great pleasures of collecting, and today we will review this heavy object!
In 2010, the American Custom Knife Collectors Association Nian Dao, a famous modern art knife work, was jointly produced by 6 European and American masters.
Generally, cooperative tools, because of the design, transportation, schedule and other reasons, are ultimately difficult to achieve.
Only because of some special and important occasions, commemorative significance, there will be such a multi-person collaborative boutique.
Usually, 3 or 4 knife makers cooperate to work together, which is very rare, not to mention the cooperation of 6 big names in the industry, but also transnational, which is indeed an "impossible task".
The 6 big names are:
Edmond Davidson (Master AKI, President of the American Knifesmiths Association, the first person to value the traditional American integrated steel straight knife)
Steve Johnson (Master AKI, the most orthodox heir to loveless style)
Wolfgang Lochler (Master AKI, top master of modern art knives)
Barry Lee Hans (AKI Manager, Current President of the American Gun Sculpture Association, The First Chair in the European and American Steel Sculpture Industry)
Paul Long (America's First Sheath Maker, LV in Sheath)
Paul Bosch (the world's first tool heat treatment man, tool performance master)
Such a luxurious lineup can be described as the best in several fields in the knife world. It is no exaggeration to say that this work is the most famous masterpiece in the history of modern knives.
This work is a one-piece steel straight knife, which is very cumbersome from the production process, and it also involves the cooperation of multiple people, let's take a look at the general process;
1, Edmund uses more than 30 years of technology to make a one-piece steel straight knife, from the initial steel plate to cut out the general outline of the knife, to complete the shaping and transition of the integrated steel handguard.
2, handed over to Steve for the grinding and polishing of the blade and the opening of the handle, Steve's LOVELESS type of opening blade can be described as pure fire, sexy blade line perfectly presented.
3, transferred to Barry for handguard carving, combined with Victorian wind curls, signature ghost leaves, French gray bottom surface treatment of a variety of techniques, and then with antique green gold made of edge inlay.
4, sent to Paul for heat treatment, the performance of steel to the limit level, let us see the classic flame mark again.
5, Embark on an overseas trip by Wolfgang to make handles and rivets, the most feminine lines with texture carving to highlight the artistic atmosphere, rivets full and rounded workmanship is very exquisite.
6. It is again handed over to Steve for final inspection as well as surface accuracy treatment, and to make all the knife body signatures.
7. Send to Paul. Long studio, gorgeous leather sheath tailor-made, inlaid with beautiful crocodile leather.
8, sent to Chuck Photographer for professional photography, as the cover of the 2010 CKCA exhibition promotion promotion.
9, sent to the exhibition site, the day gorgeous debut, the audience to watch.
The work has traveled nearly ten times from design to exhibition appearance, more than 27,370 kilometers, almost two-thirds of the length of the equator, which is rare in the industry.
The total length of the work is about 32.5 cm, the blade width is 3.7 cm, the blade thickness is 5.5 mm, and the handguard is 1.35 cm thick, which is a stout combat knife style work.
The whole is made of CPM154 powder steel, and the blades, handguard sides and thinning keel areas are mirror polished.
The strong knife body and the delicate lines make the whole have both masculine and soft beauty, and the carefully configured center of gravity is balanced, which cannot be abandoned in the hand.
In addition to being published on the cover of blade magazine in August 2010, it has been published in other knife media.
