"Since the Western Zhou Dynasty, people in ancient times have always had the tradition of joint burial, which is a kind of tomb specifically for husband and wife, and has continued to do so throughout the dynasties. However, there have been exceptions to even one thing that is so traditional. In Nanjing, China, a father-daughter burial tomb was found, and the daughter's coffin was piled with red elixirs, and the identification results obtained for this were indignant.
In the 1990s, an archaeological team from Jiangsu Province discovered an ancient tomb on Shogun Hill outside Nanjing. After some excavation, experts confirmed that this was a joint burial tomb from the Eastern Jin Dynasty. Since ancient times, joint burials have been used by more famous royal courtiers and their wives, and such tombs often lead to huge archaeological discoveries.
But when the archaeological team opened the coffin, what they saw immediately shocked people. This turned out to be a large and a small body that was obviously two skeletons of father and daughter, and the father and daughter were buried together, which is an absolutely rare existence in the history of archaeology. Through the interpretation of the epitaph in the tomb, it is known that this is the tomb of Wang Bin, a famous minister of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, and his chief queen Danhu.
Wang Bin was born in 278 AD and was the cousin of The Powerful Minister Wang Dun and Wang Dao. He made great contributions to the stabilization of the regime of Emperor Sima Rui of the Yuan Dynasty in Jiankang, and was eventually promoted to the rank of Right Servant of Shangshu. And his eldest queen Danhu, according to the "Book of Jin", this was a well-known Miss Qianjin at that time, not only a family xuanhe, but also beautiful and moving, with countless suitors. Such a pair of father and daughter actually buried together, which makes historians puzzled.
And what makes people puzzled is not only this, the archaeologists actually found a large number of red elixirs in Wang Danhu's coffin. After identification, this is a kind of "five stone scatter" that originated in the Han Dynasty and was first put into use during the Three Kingdoms period. In his later years, Qin Shi Huang was obsessed with finding immortal medicines, which also caused the people and the imperial family to set off an alchemy atmosphere. After the qin dynasty in 207 BC, these customs were also continued by the people of the Han Dynasty.
WushiShan, also known as cold food scatter, is composed of five kinds of stone medicines: Dansha, Xionghuang, Alum, Zeng Qing and Cishi. It has a strong medicinal effect, which can make people's whole body warm, and produce a psychedelic effect in a short period of time. He Yan of the Three Kingdoms period was the first to advocate eating it, and claimed to be "refreshed and physically enhanced", but was soon judged by doctors to be a chronic drug that could slowly destroy the human body and paralyze pain with psychedelic sensations.
During the Wei and Jin dynasties, there was a custom called "Wei jin demeanor", when the celebrities all relied on drinking and taking medicine for fun, and the medicine was this drug. Sima Pi, the Emperor of the Jin Dynasty, was disabled by taking this medicine, and Sun Simiao of the Tang Dynasty once called for "when encountering this party, it must be burned, and it should not be left for a long time", which is enough to explain its harm.
After analyzing the bones and elixirs, experts found that these "elixirs" not only have the effect of five stones, but also contain mercury. Long-term use will not only destroy the nervous system, but also lead to infertility. The corpses of Wang Bin and Wang Danhu can easily detect traces of mercury, which shows that the father and daughter are likely to die of overdose, and the daughter has lost her fertility and can only grow old at home.
Experts directly expressed their anger at this, bluntly saying "What a ridiculous! "In this way, the father actually let his daughter take this drug, which eventually led to the waste of her youth and even her life, which was really a wasted father." The huge amount of "Dan Yao" placed in the coffin is enough to show that Wang Danhu was already deeply addicted to drugs before she died, and she would never have thought that her life was actually ruined in the hands of the pills given to her by her father, which was really a great tragedy.
