In 1979, the Vietnamese side, which was supported by the Soviet Union, held a hostile attitude toward the mainland, in addition to constantly provoking at the border, it also drove out overseas Chinese in Vietnam, and even killed people.
The war surprised everyone, at that time, most people in the international community thought that Vietnam would have a great advantage, but in less than a month, under the offensive of the Chinese army, Vietnam had lost more than twenty cities in a row, and after the Battle of Lang Son, Xu Shiyou even drove tanks to the city of Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam at that time.
However, because the Soviet army was almost assembled on the border at that time, and the pressure of international public opinion was particularly large, and the purpose of the initial counterattack against Vietnam was to punish Vietnam, which was empty-eyed at that time, after the purpose of the war was achieved, the central authorities resolutely issued an order to withdraw.
However, when our army won the victory and was ordered to withdraw, a major incident occurred in the 448th Regiment of the 150th Division of the 50th Army in the direction of Gao Binh in Vietnam, and the division stationed in Chongqing before the war was left in China as a strategic reserve, and seeing that the outbound combat troops were returning to China one after another, the 150th Division felt that its face was dull, and it repeatedly made operational requirements to the Guangxi Frontline Command, thinking of Vietnam to personally experience the actual combat environment of the battlefield.
The commander at that time, Xu Shiyou, was soft-hearted for a moment, feeling that the war was nearing its end and that large-scale fighting should be gone, so he agreed to the 150th Division's request to leave the country and assigned them the task of covering the retreat of the 41st Army, but later it happened that until the death of General Xu Shiyou.
The 150th Division joined the battle on 6 March, two days after the central government announced its withdrawal, and due to the haste to enter the battle, the commander was light and careless, and the 2 battalions of the 448th Regiment of the 150th Division were surrounded by viet Cong regiments in the Ban Ying area of Gao Binh. Since experienced veterans had been sent to the front line to fight, most of the troops left behind were new recruits, undertrained, and encountered Vietnamese troops who came to raid not far from the border.
In the darkness, the gunshots were loud all over the mountains, and they found that the retreat had been cut off and they had lost contact with the friendly forces, and suddenly the position was in chaos, and the regimental headquarters ordered all units to disperse and break through, which caused a serious weakening of combat effectiveness. As a result, the regiment was surrounded by viet congregations in a familiar environment, and a large number of officers and men were taken prisoner, including the regimental chief of staff, battalion instructors, company platoon leaders and many soldiers, and 1 company even laid down their weapons en masse.
Carelessness and light enemy caused this loss. Although our captives were asked to return after the war, they were still tortured and bruised, and regarding this mistake, Commander Xu Shiyou believed that it was caused by his own carelessness, and after returning to China, he still had a grudge against him, and he never forgot it until his death
