Speaking of Sun Yuanliang, a senior general of the Nationalist Army, everyone may shake their heads, isn't this the "flying general"?
In order to express the praise for those generals, such as Li Guang, Shan Xiongxin, Li Keyong, Yang Jiye, Lü Bu, etc., when the name of this "Flying General" fell on Sun Yuanliang, it became a pejorative meaning: "Fleeing General".
Sun Yuanliang was also asked twice for "escaping" from the battlefield.
The first time was in the 1926 Northern Expedition War, when Sun Yuanliang, then commander of the 1st Regiment of the 1st Division of the 1st Army of the National Revolutionary Army, was responsible for garrisoning the Niuhang Station in Nanchang, because the 1st Division did not think about consolidating the results of the battle after the luck of winning, but instead sought great pleasure. As a result, it was counterattacked by Sun Chuanfang's troops overnight, and due to the lack of vigilance, Sun Yuanliang took the lead in fleeing in panic. The troops were leaderless, had not yet organized effective resistance, and had already scattered one after another, resulting in the loss of strategic points and the recovery of Nanchang.
Sun Yuanliang's "escape" alarmed Chiang Kai-shek, who immediately rushed to the front to reprimand the 1st Division and "hold Sun Yuanliang accountable." In his admonition speech, old Chiang reiterated: Punishment according to the "Revolutionary Army Company Sitting Law" stipulates that "whoever it is, it will be shot according to law." ”
Then, Sun Yuanliang disappeared in the army, and everyone also believed that this time Sun Yuanliang must not be able to escape.
The second was the "Battle of Nanjing" that took place during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, when Sun Yuanliang was the commander of the 72nd Army and the commander of the 88th Division, responsible for guarding the commanding heights of Nanjing, Yuhuatai and the south of Nanjing. In the 88th Division's strenuous resistance, the troops suffered heavy casualties and the positions were also lost one after another, under such circumstances, Sun Yuanliang blindly carried out Tang Shengzhi's orders, and even left the troops to escape first, and finally was forced to return to the battlefield under the supervision of his rear team Song Xilian with machine guns.
Afterwards, Sun Yuanliang was once again "held accountable", so he was also dismissed from his post and investigated, and was imprisoned and detained for 42 days. Finally, as an employee of Minsheng Shipping Company, he traveled through Hong Kong to visit Britain, France, Germany, Italy and other European countries.
"Flying General" Sun Yuanliang was "held accountable" twice, what will happen later?
After being "held accountable" for the first time, he was sent by Chiang To the Japanese Army Non-Commissioned Officer School for further study, and two years later he returned to China to serve as the commander of the Artillery Regiment of the 1st Guard Brigade. He was then promoted to brigadier of the 1st Brigade of the 1st Guard Division and commander of the 88th Division.
After being "held accountable" for the second time, although he was snubbed by chiang kai-shek for a long time, he did not return to the military circles until 1944, serving as deputy commander-in-chief of the Twenty-eighth Group Army and commander of the Twenty-ninth Army.
Sun Yuanliang was "held accountable" twice, not only can he escape a move, but he can also be reused?
First, Sun Yuanliang was a concubine of the old Jiang family. Sun Yuanliang graduated from the first phase of Huangpu, and because of his high level of education (expected by Peking University) during his school period, coupled with his dignified appearance and personable demeanor, he was also a backbone member of the right wing of the Kuomintang, and he was even more loyal to Chiang Kai-shek, so he was deeply respected by the president Chiang Kai-shek.
Second, Sun Yuanliang was also a deadly commodity in the war, which he had outstanding performance in the Eastern Expedition and the Northern Expedition, and his performance in the Songhu War of Resistance in 1932, the Battle of Songhu in 1937, and the Battle of Dushan in 1944 all played out the courage of Chinese soldiers. As a result, his position continued to rise. After the end of the War of Resistance, he had already served as commander of the Sixteenth Corps.
The last battlefield "escape" of the "Flying General" was the Huaihai Campaign during the Liberation War, and since it was really impossible to resist the siege of our army, Du Yuming ordered three corps, including Sun Yuanliang's corps, to break through, so Sun Yuanliang once again showed the "Flying General" skills, turned off the radio, and left the troops to run wildly, resulting in more than 80,000 sixteen corps, leaving only more than 400 people.
This was the last "escape" in Sun Yuanliang's military career, although he was not "held accountable", but after that, he was no longer reused by the old Jiang, and he finally chose to retire and engage in business. After living in Japan for a while, he returned to Taipei and enjoyed his old age in peace. He died in 2007 at the age of 103, a very long life.
