Bentley has three major car series: continental GT, Flying Spur and Bentayga.
Their design, development and engineering are all completed at the headquarters factory in Crewe, UK.
Tim Yue is Bentley's first production SUV model and the first new work launched under the Bentley brand's "Beyond 100" business strategy, named Bentayga, inspired by the vast natural scenery, and launched in November 2015, positioning itself as a high-end luxury. Its first owner was Queen Elizabeth II, and in 2020, Bentayga sold 20,000 units worldwide, becoming Bentley's best-selling single model. Since the creation of the ultra-luxury SUV segment, Bentley Bentayga models have been optimised to take performance, luxury and practical functionality to a whole new level.
Previously, the Bentley brand has launched a number of Bentayga models for the global market, mounted on different powertrains, including the 6.0T W12 engine, this time, we test-drive the 2021 4.0T V8 version, which was launched in 2018. It is worth noting that the model is also a four-seater version, and it is understood that 20% of first-generation Bentayga customers chose the four-seater configuration, with a total of about 4,000 units sold.
A new look of agility
Bentayga features a striking, sporty exterior design inspired by the third-generation Continental GT and Flying Spur's body exterior styling. All three models make up the latest Bentley lineup with a modern look. It is also this inheritance that retains the majesty unique to ultra-luxury models, such as the black honeycomb style used in the middle net, but the size is larger than before the redesign, and the angle is closer to vertical. While maintaining majesty while keeping up with the times, each panel at the front and rear of the Bentayga has been redesigned, and the new grille adds a touch of flair to this new piece.
The new headlights have three automatic modes, including Town mode, Countr y mode, and Motorway mode, to adjust the low beam and matrix lighting system, each matrix headlight contains 82 LED components, the headlight system can automatically adjust the LED components, by changing the beam, automatically avoid pedestrians and vehicles.
In terms of size, Bentayga's length, width and height are 5125x1998x1728mm, and the wheelbase is 2995mm. Bentayga owners do not attach great importance to body size, after all, to ensure the flexibility of use in the city, no car owner is willing to spend time on parking, and with this time, a lot of money is in the pocket.
The side of the body is muscular, the elongated roof spoiler makes the silhouette of the body more slender and elegant, and the front fenders are equipped with new air intakes with an extended design. The rear track is 20mm more than the older model, and the 21-inch ten-spoke wheels feature a two-tone design that matches the high-performance Pirelli P ZERO, the same front and rear, with a size of 285/45 R21.
The oval taillights at the rear of the car are in line with the Continental GT, and when lit, they also have a naked-eye 3D effect, reminiscent of rubies. The license plate position is further moved down to the bumper, making the word "Bentley" above more prominent.
Hide high technology in luxury
Bentayga's vehicle interiors took more than 230 craftsmen more than 100 hours to create, and the control of details is almost demanding, from decorative panels to delicate stitching. The leather in the car comes from Scandinavia and is hand-screened before it is cut into the interior decoration. Bentayga's interior panels are available in 10 styles, eight of which are made of solid wood, one of which is carbon fiber, and one of which is the diamond brushed aluminum trim for this car. In addition to the interior panels, Bentayga also has 15 interior colors and 6 color schemes.
The most conspicuous is the new 10.9-inch touch screen and multimedia information entertainment system, the display effect is very clear, support GPS navigation, Bluetooth telephony, multimedia entertainment, voice recognition control, Internet of Vehicles, etc., in the mobile phone Internet support Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The newly upgraded navigation system also supports 3D real-life display, satellite map, and head-up display function to display traffic conditions, street addresses, place names and destination distances.
The air conditioner outlet adopts the classic "flying wing" shape, corresponding to the Bentley LOGO, the air ion generator releases negatively charged ions from the central air conditioning outlet, so that pollutants such as dust or allergens in the air generate static electricity and condense into clumps to purify the cockpit air.
The 1780-watt Naim for Bentley Custom Speakers' speaker mask, with about 20 speakers, offers eight sound modes from Digital Media to Classic.
The Bentayr seat is available in 15 colors, which is very soft and wraps up at high speeds, giving people a steady sense of security. The front seats all support electrical adjustment, memory, heating, ventilation and massage functions, and the passenger seat is also equipped with leg rests.
The rear seats also support heating and ventilation, the reclining angle of the backrest has increased from the original 32° to 40°, and the rear legroom is 100mm higher than that of the old model when half reclining. Equipped with a 5-inch display, quad-core processor and 1GB of memory, the touchscreen remote control unit is in line with the touchscreen remote control unit in the rear of the flying spur, and the interconnected experience in the cockpit can also be achieved through a USB-C data port and wireless charging devices for mobile phones, further enhancing its overall performance.
The best is still the B mode
The Bentayga is powered by a 4.0T V8 twin-turbo engine with a maximum power of 550 hp and a maximum torque of 770 Nm, matched with an 8AT manual transmission with a maximum speed of 290 km/h and an official 100 km/h acceleration time of 4.5 seconds. Press the ignition button and the exhaust pipe will erupt into a slightly dull, but not too low-key burst. That's right, it's what we often call the V8's unique "purr-purr" sound.
Compared to most urban SUVs, Bentayga's maneuverability is simply too good. There are 8 driving modes on the car, and the steering is very friendly, and it doesn't look like driving an SUV that big at all. In addition, it can also automatically adjust the chassis height according to different modes and different speeds, the throttle and brake pedal are also very linear, and the steering force will be appropriately increased under the Sport mode.
The best is the B-mode (Bentley Dynamic Ride), which is based on the world's first electronic active roll control technology. On the winding road, in the "Bentley Dynamic Driving System" mode, when crossing the bend at a speed of 90 kilometers per hour, the lateral roll force is counteracted in time by the reaction force to ensure the maximum tire touch area, and the body roll is well controlled, very stable, and the heart is not panicked at all.
The drive form is a front-mounted full-time four-wheel drive, the central differential structure is a Tolson-type differential, the front suspension is a double wishbone independent suspension, and the rear suspension is a multi-link independent suspension. The air suspension can be adjusted to the soft and hard and high and low, and during the mountain test drive, the road was blocked due to landslides, and it was easily passed by raising the chassis without scraping the chassis and foot pedals.
The gearbox shift is very smooth, in terms of comfort is a full score; and in the sport mode, the grumpy personality is exposed, the throttle response becomes very sensitive, the shift operation is stretched, and around 1500rpm it emits a dull sound wave, which makes people can't help but step on the throttle deeply, and the adrenaline rushes.
