Athletic: Ferguson called Glazer to intercept Ronaldo, but did not participate in the decision to leave the coach

According to The Athletic, in the transfer of C Ronaldo to Manchester United, former Manchester United coach Ferguson personally called Glazer. But in the decision to fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ferguson was not involved.

Last August, Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford. According to the report, Ferguson intervened in Ronaldo's transfer, when Ronaldo was likely to join Manchester City, but Ferguson called Glazer directly to try to persuade the latter to let Ronaldo join Manchester United. In Ferguson's view, it is intolerable for C Ronaldo, who once played for Manchester United, to join the city's sworn enemies.

As for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's dismissal, Ferguson was not involved in the decision-making. He would give his opinion when asked for Ferguson's opinion, but he was not part of the decision-making process to fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer or appoint Ronnick.

The report further noted that Ferguson remained a member of United's board, but was largely only a symbolic role. The club's really empowered board members are the Glazer family, Woodward, general manager Richard Arnold and chief financial officer Cliff Barty.
