In the late Qing Dynasty, the Xiang Army came into being, and many bureaucratic families appeared in Hunan, who were rich and powerful and very influential. And one of them is the Tang family, three generations of talents, almost becoming the most powerful family.
Tang Benyou was originally a subordinate of Zeng Guofan and an official to the viceroy. His son Tang Chengxu served as the governor of Hunan Province during the Xinhai Revolution, and later as the director of the Department of Industry of the Hunan Provincial Government. In 1926, he was known as "Tang Bancheng", because his industry was so large that almost no one in the local area did not know him.
Tang Chengxu has four sons, namely Tang Shengzhi, Tang Shengxian, Tang Shengyi, and Tang Shengming, and the younger son, Tang Shengming, is the protagonist of this article. The eldest son, Tang Shengzhi, was very talented in the military, and served as the commander-in-chief of the Xiang Army and later the governor of Hunan Province, which can be described as an important position. Tang Shengxian and Tang Shengyi later became generals of the Kuomintang army and directors of the Hubei Stamp Duty Bureau respectively.
But Tang Shengming made people their hearts broken, because he was very naughty since he was a child, and he really couldn't discipline him, and in 1920, the eldest brother sent him to the head of the Hunan First Division Affiliated Primary School to study, and this principal was no one else, but a great man. Tang Shengming stayed with the great man for more than a year, and the two formed a deep teacher-student relationship.
In 1927, the great man launched the Autumn Harvest Uprising, Tang learned that he lacked ammunition, and immediately borrowed the name of his brother to lead the army to send more than 300 rifles by train, nearly 10,000 rounds of ammunition, and provided help in the most difficult period of the Communist Party. In fact, he had also sent guns and ammunition to the premier during the Nanchang Uprising, because the premier was his teacher when he was a student at the Whampoa Military Academy in 1926.
Because of his brother's promotion, Tang Shengming was soon promoted to deputy commander, and in 1931 he was appointed lieutenant general of the Kuomintang Central Military Senate. In 1940, he was secretly summoned by Lao Jiang to use his friend status to go undercover at Wang's side to steal Japanese and fake intelligence and cover for fighters in Zhejiang.
Tang Shengming's patriotism was always firm, so he immediately agreed and took his wife Xu to Nanjing to find Wang.
Wang learned that they were very welcome after learning that they had come, Tang Shengming had a lively personality, Xu Lai was skilled, and they quickly gained Wang's trust and obtained a lot of important intelligence.
After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the Nationalist Government issued a special announcement to restore Tang Shengming's reputation, but he entrusted him with a false post and did not intend to reuse it at all. Therefore, after the uprising in 1949, he served as the deputy commander of the 21st Corps of the People's Liberation Army, participated in the Liberation War, and made outstanding military achievements.
After the victory of the Liberation War, he went to Hong Kong to do business. Until 1954, when he was invited by the prime minister to return to Beijing to settle down, the great people at that time also used the fee to fund them. In 1956, Tang Shengming became a counselor of the State Council.
He died on 24 October 1987 at the age of 81.
