Many people have heard of the landlord "Zhou Pickpocket", and few people know that among the Kuomintang generals, there is also a general nicknamed "Zhang Pickpocket", but the meaning of the two "pickpockets" is completely different, one is a miserly landlord, and the other is a hero who martyred the country against Japan.
The nickname "Zhang Peel" may not be known to few people, but when it comes to his real name Chinese know that the real name of "Zhang Peel" is Zhang Zizhong, a famous anti-Japanese general, Zhang Zizhong is a native of Linqing, Shandong, born in a family of officials and eunuchs.
As a generation of anti-Japanese celebrities, why is Zhang Zizhong called "Zhang Pickpocket"? In 1916, Zhang Zizhong defected to Feng Yuxiang on the recommendation of his friend Che Zhen, and in the face of Zhang Zizhong, who was tall and heroic, Feng Yuxiang admired him and appointed him as a platoon leader.
Later, Zhang Zizhong was transferred to the cadet battalion as a battalion commander, and during the winter training, there was a heavy snowfall, and many soldiers developed a feeling of fear of difficulties, so it was definitely impossible to train soldiers, and one day Zhang Zizhong gathered all the officers and men of the battalion and lectured them.
Zhang Zizhong only asked one question, "What should I do if the enemy launches an attack when it snows?" The officers and soldiers replied, "Resolutely resist!" Zhang Zizhong then said, "Now that it's snowing, you don't want to practice and talk about fighting!" The officers and men all bowed their heads in shame.
Then Zhang Zizhong, while taking off his clothes, said to the officers and men of the whole battalion: "Please take off your clothes like me and run together!" After saying that his cotton clothes had been taken off, all the officers and men of the battalion were stunned, and one by one they all took off their cotton clothes and ran behind Zhang Zizhong.
After this incident, Zhang Zizhong got a nickname of "Zhang Peel", which soon spread in the Northwest Army, and later Zhang Zizhong became a general, and no one called him that anymore, it was Zhang Zizhong's self-training that made him an iron-boned soldier.
In May 1940, in order to control the traffic of the Yangtze River, the Japanese army cut off the transportation route to Chongqing and launched the Battle of Zaoyi, this time the Japanese army seemed to be desperate, gathering 300,000 troops, with a great posture of endless death, and Zhang Zizhong, then commander of the 33rd Group Army, led his troops to meet the battle.
At that time, there were only 2 regiments of the 33rd Group Army stationed on the west bank of the Xianghe River, in order to block the Japanese army, on May 7, Zhang Zizhong personally crossed the river to resist the Japanese army, in fact, as the commander of the group army, Zhang Zizhong did not need to personally go to the battlefield, he only needed to command at the command post.
In order to inspire his subordinates' anti-Japanese confidence and determination, he led his troops to the north by example, and on the 14th, Zhang Zizhong and the Japanese army had a fierce battle, and more than 1,500 of his leaders were surrounded by more than 6,000 Japanese troops, and on the 16th, Zhang Zizhong braved the rain of bullets and bullets to command the battle, unfortunately he was shot and killed, and the entire army was destroyed.
Zhang Zizhong's body was transported to the rear, the inspection found that he had 8 wounds, when the body was transported through Yichang, 100,000 soldiers and civilians sent his soul to the shore, the same day the Japanese plane to Yichang over the sky, the people were not afraid of bombing, no one fled, his body was transported to Chongqing, Chiang Kai-shek led the team to personally greet.
What is even more admirable is that Zhang Zizhong's wife Li Minhui learned that her husband was martyred, and she actually died of a 7-day hunger strike in grief, and her husband martyred her wife, and Zhang Zizhong and his wife Li Minhui were buried together in the foothills of Chongqing Meihua Mountain, and posterity paid tribute year after year.
