In the War of Liberation, many rebel generals of the Nationalist army were given preferential treatment by our army and reused by our army, such as Dong Qiwu, Tao Zhiyue, and Chen Mingren, all of whom were founding generals of our army and all served as commanders of the corps, but their status in our army was still a little lower than that of the next one.
After the uprising, this nationalist general became the deputy commander of the Northwest Field Army, and he was General Zhao Shoushan. Zhao Shoushan, a native of Shou County, Shaanxi Province, graduated from military academy and joined Feng Yuxiang's Northwest Army, and later followed Yang Hucheng, and together with him made a lot of meritorious contributions in the southern expedition to the northern war, and was promoted from platoon commander to brigade commander within a few years. In 1935, the main force of the Red Fourth Front army turned to northern Shaanxi and fought with Zhao Shoushan several times, and later Zhao Shoushan signed a non-aggression pact with the Red Army without preserving its strength, and he was very sympathetic to the Red Army's idea of stopping the civil war and jointly resisting Japan, so he later took the initiative to contact our party.
After the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Zhao Shoushan fought a bloody battle with the Japanese army in the Battle of Niangziguan for half a month, and the team of 10,000 people was knocked down with no more than 3,000 people, and Zhao Shoushan could not help but look at his brothers who died in sorrow, and he was white-headed overnight. Later, Zhao Shoushan resisted the Japanese army for two years at Zhongtiao Mountain, smashing the Japanese army 11 large-scale marches and becoming a thorn in the eyes of the Japanese army. However, later he was transferred to Henan by the superiors of the Nationalist Army, and Zhongtiao Mountain soon lost his hand, and Zhao Shoushan was completely disappointed in the Nationalist Army, so he joined our Party, and was therefore overtaken by the Nationalist Army.
In 1947, Zhao Shoushan decided to revolt, and the general Nanjing set out from Shanghai and Tianjin to enter the liberated area from Hebei, and the leaders of our army extended a warm welcome to him, and soon made him deputy commander of the Northwest Field Army and deputy to General Peng. After liberation, because he served as the governor of Qinghai and Shaanxi for local work, he was not awarded a military rank, and on June 20, 1965, Zhao Lao died of illness in Beijing at the age of 71.
