There is a classic clip in the famous director Spielberg's business card "War Horse", where a war horse named "Joey" is trapped by a barbed wire fence in front of the British and German troops. Generally speaking, when two armies are facing each other, who cares whether a horse is dead or alive? However, a British soldier and a German soldier rescued the war horse, and they even fought for the ownership of the horse. Eventually, by tossing a coin, they decided that the warhorse would be owned by the British.
However, the real war in history has never been very "beautiful", there is a saying that "weak countries have no diplomacy", and the weak eat the strong will always be the main theme of the world.
As we all know, the Qing Dynasty was a dynasty that brought the policy of closing the country to the extreme, and even though foreign advanced technology had been put in front of them, the emperors still ignored it and even blasted each other out of the country. As a result, the Western powers that had experienced the industrial revolution decided to take tough measures to open the door of China, and under the intimidation of the strong ships and cannons, the cowardly Qing court had to sign a series of unequal treaties, leaving tears of remorse in the laughter.
After being sacked by the Eight-Power Alliance, the Qing court undoubtedly had no say in diplomacy, after all, there is a saying called "there is no end to the egg under the nest", the country is already crumbling, how big a small official can turn up? Tan Jinyong, military attaché of the Chinese Legation to the United States, came to San Francisco from Washington on August 13, 1903, at the behest of a minister, to handle some foreign affairs.
One day, after Tan Jinyong finished his official duties, it was close to dusk, and he was walking alone on a bridge, with no poetry in his mind, only a bunch of messy things. Just when he was absent-minded, an American policeman suddenly approached him, and after the two passed by, he saw the long braid behind Tan Jinyong's head, so he immediately felt contempt and scolded Tan Jinyong as a pig. Then, he lifted Tan Jinyong's hat and said that his braid was a "pig's tail", and he laughed and did not take Tan Jinyong in his eyes at all.
After all, Tan Jinyong was a person with an identity, and he suppressed his anger and said to the American policeman in English: "Please sir, respect yourself, Chinese is also a human." Hearing this, the American police did not say a word, and immediately slapped Tan Jinyong with a loud slap. Just as the so-called "people do not offend me, I do not offend, if people offend me, I will offend", after suffering humiliation, Tan Jinyong could not bear it, and even if he used Chinese martial arts, he beat the American police to the ground with a few punches.
Unexpectedly, the American police whistled and called several patrol officers around them. Tan Jinyong's two fists were difficult to defeat with four hands, and coupled with the fact that the other party had a gun, he was quickly pushed to the ground. After being beaten up, Tan Jinyong was dragged under the bridge again, and experienced a "parade in the streets", and countless people were watching his jokes. In the end, the American police dragged Tan Jinyong into the police station, completely disregarding his status as a Chinese military attaché, and beat him while saying: "Anyone who Chinese must be beaten, and no one can break the law"!
It was not until midnight that Tan Jinyong was rescued by a local overseas Chinese who spent money to save him, and when the overseas Chinese saw him pitiful, they did not know what to say, so they planned to deal with his injuries first. However, Tan Jinyong refused his kindness, and he felt that he had lost the face of the country and had no need to live in the world. So, Tan Jinyong walked up the high bridge, jumped down from above, jumped into the river and committed suicide. Tan Jinyong's death was heavy, and he used his life to explain to posterity the true meaning of "weak countries without diplomacy".
