Baidu and Jidu announced that automotive robots with L4 self-driving capabilities will be available in 2023

During the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Baidu and Jidu jointly announced that Jidu's first mass-produced model will be equipped with NVIDIA DRIVE Orin SoC (System-on-Chip). The jigzag model is expected to be launched in 2023 and will become an automotive robot capable of L4 autonomous driving capabilities. At the same time, the concept car of the product is expected to be officially unveiled at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2022.

Jidu CEO Xia Yiping said that jidu has only been established for more than half a year, and has begun to carry out mass production software research and development verification based on software integration simulation car SIMUCar, and pre-developed digital intelligent cockpit and intelligent driving functions, showing the innovation and efficiency of technology companies in the field of intelligent development. By the end of 2021, SIMUCar has realized the intelligent driving integration of urban area and high-speed domain. Relying on Baidu's advanced AI capabilities and autonomous driving technology, as well as the top computing power in the NVIDIA DRIVE Orin chip industry, Jidu will provide users with leading, safe and reliable autonomous driving products to create automotive robots that can move freely and grow themselves.

Liu Tong, general manager of NVIDIA's Automotive Division in China, said that more and more established automakers and start-ups are choosing to use NVIDIA DRIVE Orin to build software-defined vehicles and continuously improve various AI capabilities. This time, the company joined hands with Baidu and Jidu to create a new generation of autonomous vehicles and provide users with a better intelligent driving experience and safety.

Baidu founder Robin Li said in December 2021 that Jidu's automotive robot runs through the three major product concepts of "free movement, natural communication, and self-growth". First, the car robot has the L4 level of automatic driving ability, can move freely; second, the accurate recognition of human-vehicle interaction and speech semantics, so that the car and people can "naturally communicate", understand user emotions, and respond to user needs in real time; third, the car robot can carry out self-learning and iteration according to the user's usage habits, continuously optimize automatic driving and intelligent cockpit experience, and achieve "self-growth".

Among them, "free movement", that is, the L4 level of autonomous driving capability, is supported by Jidu's leading intelligent driving system. The system covers the global automatic driving scenario, providing industry-leading, safe and reliable automatic driving functions in high-speed and urban open roads. The Jidu Intelligent Driving System is provided by Baidu Autonomous Driving Computing Platform and NVIDIA DRIVE Orin with hardware and computing power, and the software and algorithms are jointly developed by Jidu and Baidu.

Up to now, Baidu AI has 13,000 patents, and has ranked first in the number of patent applications, authorizations and patent quality of Chinese intelligent and the first in the number of patent applications in the field of deep learning in the world, with 3,400 intelligent driving patents and a cumulative automatic driving test mileage of 21 million kilometers, becoming the only Chinese company that has ranked among the "leaders" of Guidehouse global autonomous driving for two consecutive years.
