Esteban O'Conn said winning the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix lifted the pressure on Alpine Alps as they were looking for future victories.
Renault was named Alps ahead of the 2021 season, and despite the name change, the team is still a continuation of Renault. Renault returned to F1 in 2016 and in fact, before the Hungarian Grand Prix for the 2021 season, the French team had never tasted victory since 2008.
With the introduction of new rules for 2022, Alps is one of many teams looking to keep going and fight for victory in a row. Aucom said the pressure has been significantly reduced since they have already won once, meaning Alps can chase race victories with less pressure and more confidence from now on.
On his victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Ocon said: "It's a good feeling and I'm so happy I won for the team. It is clear that this is Renault's first victory since their comeback in f1 and The next victory can come soon. We already know what it's like, we don't have that much pressure, and we can do our job well and make it a reality. For me, I still work as I used to. The people around me, of course they were really happy to win that win, it was a first for many of them, but we wanted more moments like that, not just one. We know we still have a long way to go and still have to work hard, but it feels obviously good and I'm proud to work with them and be with such a talented group of people. ”
Aucom believes they don't have the strongest mid-range car, but they make up for it in terms of race management, which ensures they are able to make the most of every scoring opportunity.
Ocon said: "We know we don't have the fastest car, but once we have the chance, we are able to take the chance and I think we can be proud of it. ”
