In 2005, the TV series "The Legend of the Paladin Sword" adapted from the game was hotly discussed, and there was such a scene in the play, Li Xiaoyao, in order to change the fate of everyone, returned to ten years ago, he flew with his sword and flew to the exact opposite place of Xianling Island, and did not expect that people's fate would remain the same after shuttling back. The Lunatic Sect Leader even subverted his cognition, telling him that "the earth is round, like an orange", so Ling'er is still on Xianling Island.
Although the Lunatic Sect Leader in the play has done a lot of bad things, he is indeed a person with advanced consciousness, because in ancient times, people have always believed in the heavenly round place theory. The Book of Rites once recorded that "the heavenly path is round, the authentic road is known as the square, the square is known as the circle and the circle is clear", this statement has deeply influenced posterity, for thousands of years, people have not thought that they are standing on a ball. The famous emperor Kangxi even argued with the Westerners about this, but after the foreigners did something, he was convinced.
Kangxi was born in 1654, and when he ascended the throne at the age of 8, he made countless contributions in his life, and was even known as the Emperor of the Ages, becoming a typical representative of the Ming Emperor in China. During the Kangxi Dynasty, many missionaries had already come to China, and as a studious person, he naturally invited several Western teachers to learn about different knowledge.
In 1657, the famous missionary Nan Huairen came to China and gained the emperor's trust. He also strengthened the ranks of Chinese missionaries, and in 1669 was awarded the position of deputy supervisor of Qin Tianjian, which is particularly evident in Kangxi's dependence on him. After he came to China, he mainly managed astronomy, and even transformed the observatory and cast astronomical instruments. He also wrote many geographical works and drew maps.
Kangxi, who was heavily influenced by Nan Huairen, was naturally also full of interest in geography, especially as an ambitious emperor, he couldn't wait to understand how big the country he ruled was, preferred to refine the existing map, and if possible, he also wanted to understand the surrounding countries.
However, in the process of understanding geography, Kangxi made foreign missionaries very helpless, because he told them that the land was flat, and even used ancient poems as proof. At that time, China was still very powerful, and foreigners in China could not do whatever they wanted, and if they accidentally confronted the emperor, they were likely to invite the disaster of killing themselves. But they wanted to tell Kangxi about the fact that the earth was round, and after thinking about it for a long time, they made an experiment.
In 1708, Kangxi decided to draw a map, and in response to Kangxi's call, the missionaries went to survey all parts of China and made a precise map using the Western method of measurement. In 1719, the map was finally drawn, and the overjoyed Kangxi named the map "Imperial Public Opinion Overview Map".
At this time, the missionary Bai Jin pointed to the longitude and latitude values on this map and carefully explained to Kangxi. He told Kangxi that if the earth was square, the length of longitude and latitude would not change, but this map, which had been detected by astronomical instruments, had obvious differences in the length of longitude and latitude, and the length of the longitude line was long when the latitude was low, which proved that the earth was round.
Kangxi broke out in a cold sweat after listening to it, and then he realized that Chinese's understanding of the earth had always been wrong. Since then, Chinese has slowly corrected his original views, and Kangxi, who took the initiative to learn, is one of the heroes. This "Kangxi Emperor's General Map" also became the first map in Chinese history with longitude and latitude lines, which brought great shock to the Chinese at that time.
