What is less well known is that the old regimental commander of zheng qi, a "special meritorious hero", was Li Gang, the first commander of the armed police force. Li Gang is a generation of famous generals who came out of the 39th Army and witnessed the highlight moment of the ace army.
Li Gang was born in 1922, a native of Sanyuan County, Sanqin. In 1938, at the age of 16, Li Gang devoted himself to the revolutionary cause and later entered the Anti-Japanese Military and Political University. After graduating, Li Gang entered the 115th Division of the Eighth Route Army as an officer of the regimental political office.

In February 1941, the Central Military Commission formed the Third Division of the New Fourth Army on the basis of the Fifth Column of the Eighth Route Army, and Huang Kecheng served as the division commander and political commissar. In order to support the Third Division of the New Fourth Army, Li Gang was transferred to the unit as a battalion instructor. After the baptism of fire in the War of Resistance Against Japan, Li Gang has become a grassroots military commander with rich experience in actual combat.
In October 1945, Li Gang marched into the northeast with his troops, and was then an instructor of the second battalion of the 2nd Battalion of the 29th Regiment of the 3rd Division, the 3rd Division, the 10th Brigade of the New Fourth Army. With the advancement of the Liberation War, Li Gang's unit evolved into the 347th Regiment of the 116th Division of the 39th Army. In November 1948, after the Liaoshen Campaign, when the Dongye Army entered the pass, Li Gang was already the deputy commander of the 347th Regiment.

In October 1950, Li Gang joined the DPRK to participate in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, and was the commander of the main regiment in all battles. In the first battle, Li Gang led the 347th Regiment to defeat the American ace in the Battle of Yunshan:

In May 1953, Li Gang returned to China with the main force of the 39th Army, and later went to the Military Academy of the General Staff of Voroshilov in the Soviet Union for further study. In 1959, Li Gang graduated from the Military Academy of the General Staff of Voroshilov, and later successively served as the director of the Military Training Department of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army, the chief of staff of the Beijing Garrison District, and the deputy commander.
In the 1980s, the central authorities decided to set up a unified border defense armed police force throughout the country in accordance with the needs of the border defense situation. Accordingly, cadres and police officers from border police stations, public security checkpoints, foreign border crossing personnel management centers, and the command and management bodies of border guards at all levels and their subsidiary organs implement a system of combining compulsory military service with volunteers.

After more than two years of brewing, on August 16, 1982, the people's armed police force formation meeting was held in Beijing, and a provision was formally clarified:

At the beginning of the establishment of the armed police force, all kinds of work were complicated, and Li Gang, who was over sixty years old, did not hesitate to work hard, laying a solid foundation for the regularization of the armed police force. During Li Gang's administration of the Armed Police Force, he repeatedly stressed that his children could not accept gifts and do things in his name, let alone allow their children to be transferred to the armed police system.

In October 1984, Li Gang officially retired from his leadership position and became an adviser to the Armed Police Headquarters. On the occasion of Li Gang's retirement, the armed police force participated in the 35th anniversary of the National Day military parade, which was also the first time that the armed police force participated in the National Day military parade.
