Nurhaci was hit by a red-clad cannon during his campaign against Ningyuan and died soon after. Because Nurhaci did not determine the heir to the Khan's throne during his lifetime. Therefore, after his death, the various forces were eager to move and prepare to seize the position of the Great Khan of Houjin.
Nurhaci had been the heir to the Khanate during his lifetime. He designated his eldest son Chu Yinglai and second son Dai Shanlai as his khanate heirs. However, they were eventually disqualified by Nurhaci for various reasons as heir to the Khan's throne, so that his position as Khan's heir remained vacant. This set the stage for Nurhaci's sons to compete for the Khan's throne.
Involved in the battle for the Khan's throne was the son of his four wives. They were: Daishan of the Tong Jia clan, Mang Gultai of the Fuchagun clan, Emperor Taiji of the Yehenara clan of Menggusheng, and Amin, son of Nurhaci's younger brother Shulhaci. They are also what we often call the Four Baylors! In addition to them were Nurhaci's concubine Uranara AbaHaisheng Dolgun. It seems that these five people can compete for the Khan position.
First, let's talk about the big four Baylors. Each of the four Baylors has distinguished themselves and has a high prestige. It seems that they are all strong contenders for the post-Golden Khan position. But that's not the case.
The first is the Great Belledetsian. Dai Shan is very loyal, meritorious, and senior. Originally, after Jin's Khanship was inherited by him, no one else would have any opinion. He was also the designated successor to the Khanate by Nurhaci. But he was not cautious, and he was once reported for accepting a snack from Nurhaci's concubine Abahai. Although it was found that there was no unseemly activity between them, this incident still caused Daishan to lose the qualification to compete for the Khan's position.
The second Beyler Amin was Nurhaci's nephew, so his relationship was farther away, and he was not as competitive as Nurhaci's sons. Moreover, his father Shulhazi was killed by Nurhaci, and no one knows what Amin would do to them if he succeeded to the Khan's throne. So he basically has no chance of becoming the Future Khan.
Three Belles is Mang Gurtai. Mang Gurtai's mother was Gundai, and Mang Gurtai was disqualified from inheriting the Khan's throne because of her. Gundai was once ordered to die by Nurhaci. And it was none other than her own son, Mang Guertai, who killed Gundai. Mang Gultai actually killed his own biological mother! He originally wanted to take the opportunity to invite favors in front of Nurhaci, but his move made everyone take a breath of cool air. What else would be something he wouldn't dare do about a man who could even kill his own mother? Since this incident, Mang Gurtai has not received Nurhaci's favor, but has been gradually alienated by Nurhaci and his brothers! So no one would support him as the Great Khan. They didn't know what crazy things Mang gultai would do when he became the Great Khan.
The Four Baylor Emperor Taiji was the child of Menggu. Mongu was the geeth of the Yehenara clan, and the relationship between the Jurchens and the Yehenara clan had deteriorated before marrying Nurhaci. But Yehenara sent Menggu to Nurhaci. After sending Mongu to Nurhaci, they never interacted with Mongu again. Menggu died when Huang Taiji was eleven years old, and after Menggu's death, Huang Taiji became independent. Huang Taiji was more unfortunate than the others, not only did he not have a mother, he could not get the support of his uncle.
But Huang Taiji had no other problems except the bitter point of fate! Therefore, among the four great baylors, only Huang Taiji is likely to become the new Great Khan of Houjin, and the other three are almost useless. But none of the four great beylers nurhaci wanted to succeed him to the Khan's throne. Nurhaci's greatest desire to succeed him to the Khan's throne was Dolgun, born to his eldest concubine Uranara Abahai. Dorgon was intelligent and young, and was deeply liked by Nurhaci.
What seems to be a contest between five people has become a battle between Emperor Taiji and Dolgun! At this point, their opponents are only each other!
At that time, Dorgon was only fourteen years old, while Huang Taiji was thirty-four years old, and Dolgun was not an opponent of Huang Taiji at all. Nurhaci was well aware of this, so he secretly made some arrangements for Dorgon to inherit the Khan's throne.
These arrangements are mainly in the distribution of the strength of the Eight Flags. Speaking of the Eight Flags, let's briefly introduce the Eight Flags system, which is the army management system established by Nurhaci. It consists of four colors of yellow, white, red and blue and their inlays, and the smallest personnel management unit for each flag is the Niulu. One cow was three hundred. A flag is organized with twenty-five cattle records. That is to say, each flag should theoretically be seven thousand five hundred people. The total strength of the Eight Banners should be sixty thousand people.
But these are theories, and the Eight Flags have never been compiled according to this number. In Nurhaci's old age, the distribution of the eight flags and the owner of the flag were as follows:
Positive yellow flag, 45 cattle records. Yellow flag, 20 cattle records. The two flags were led by Nurhaci himself. The combined strength of these two banners was nearly 20,000 people.
White flag, 25 cattle records. Led by Huang Taiji.
White flag, 15 cattle records. Led by Nurhaci's eldest grandson, Dudu.
Positive red flag, 25 cattle record. Led by Daishan.
Red flags, 26 cattle records. Led by Daishan's eldest son, Yue Tuo.
Positive blue flag, 21 cattle record. Led by Mang Gultai.
Blue flag, 33 cattle records. Led by Amin.
The above totaled 210 cattle records, more than 60,000 people. In addition to Nurhaci and his grandsons Dudu and Yuetuo, the leader of the other four banners is the four baylors that we are very familiar with!
Nurhaci later adjusted it, including the color and flag owner. He paved the way for Dorgon to succeed to the throne.
First, Nurhaci divided his 65 cattle records of the yellow flag into four, led by Azig, Dolgun and Dodo each led 15 cattle records. The remaining 20 cattle were led by Nurhaci himself. Nurhaci prepares to hand over the 20 cattle records of his leadership to Dodo after his death. Azig will be the owner of the yellow flag in the future, and Dodo will be the owner of the yellow flag. Nurhaci brought the white flag to his side again, preparing to hand it over to Dorgon in the future. In this way, Dorgon has 30 cattle records, and the three Dorgon brothers have 80 cattle records! Their forces accounted for nearly 40 percent of the total strength of the Eight Banners. Daishan's father and son became the support camp on the outskirts of Dorgon. If such a pattern is formed, then the emperor Taiji, the three of them want to make trouble, they can't make trouble! Because the dorgon side of the force is the vast majority. According to this arrangement of Nurhaci, dorgon's future Khan position is ironclad! But why didn't Dorgon succeed to the Khan's throne in the end?
One of the most important reasons is that Nurhaci underestimated Huang Taiji, he underestimated the strength of Huang Taiji who grew up in a harsh environment! The situation of emperor Taiji was worse than that of Nurhachibe's son. More than that, he didn't have a mother or uncle. The mothers of his seven older brothers were all Jurchens from Jianzhou, and only from him did they come from other Jurchen tribes. This made him invisibly shorter than others!
But if a person can grow up in this adversity, his ability is not to be underestimated. And Huang Taiji is a person who grows up under various unfavorable conditions. So he wasn't so easy to deal with.
At that time, Abhay not only sent food to Daishan, but also to Emperor Taiji. Daishan took the food and ate it. And Huang Taiji just accepted it but didn't eat it. Later, Deinze reported the incident to Nurhaci, causing Daishan to lose his qualification to inherit the Khan's throne. Many people think that huang taiji asked Deinze to report this incident. In order to make Daishan lose the right to inherit the Khan's throne and suppress the Abhay side, so that the Dorgon brothers could not inherit the Khan's throne. By the way, he raised his position in Nurhaci's heart. But his plan was only about half successful. Daishan lost his qualification to inherit the Khan's throne. Abhay was not affected. After this incident, we do not know how Nurhaci saw the Emperor Taiji. From this incident, we can see the heart of Huang Taiji. He often carved more than one arrow and more birds with one stone.
Compared with The Emperor Taiji, Dorgon was an aristocratic prince born with a golden key. He grew up in a gentle and rich village since he was a child, and he never experienced the bitterness and bitterness of Huang Taiji. And at this time, Dorgon was only 14 years old, and he was still very young. A lot of things can only be done by his parents. Nurhaci was dead at the time. Dorgon's mother, Abahai, was an ordinary woman who did not understand how to fight for rights. The food she had sent to Daishan before was definitely not an adulterous affair between her and Daishan, but an attempt to woo Daishan and Emperor Taiji to help Dorgon inherit the Khan's throne. It can be seen from her means that she is not a person who understands the struggle for power. We can imagine how risky it is for such a mother to escort dorgon's Khan position.
In addition to his mother's lack of ability to fight for power, another important reason for Dorgon's failure to inherit the Khan's throne was that the daishan father and son defected to support Emperor Taiji!
Daishan was a very loyal person, so Nurhaci entrusted dolgun mother and son to Daishan before his death. He wanted him to support Dorgon to inherit the Khan's throne. But what everyone didn't expect was that Dai Shan actually chose to support Huang Taiji at a critical moment! Why did he do this?
We've been saying what Nurhaci, Dolgun Emperor Taiji. But we overlooked a man who seemed to be a small person. Although this man was not the Four Great Baylors, he was also in charge of a banner of soldiers and horses. This man is Daishan's son, Yue Tuo, the lord of the Red Flag Banner! Dudu's flag master's position was deprived, but Yue Tuo's flag lord's position was not deprived. Yue Tuo opposed Daishan's support for Dorgon to succeed to the Khan's throne, which many people did not expect. Yue Tuo and Daishan's other son, Sakhalu, constantly take advantage of Daishan. Eventually, Daisan betrayed Dolgun and chose to support Emperor Taiji.
Why did they betray Dorgon? Because their father Daishan's khanship was taken away in disguise by Dorgon's mother, Abahai. Although Daishan also has responsibilities, they will not resent Daishan, only Abbahai. If Daishan can inherit the Khan's throne, then they will have the opportunity to become the Great Khan in the future. But their hopes were dashed by Abahai's trickery. Nurhaci also wanted their father Tosan to support Dolgun as the Great Khan, and their hearts were even more unhappy!
They themselves were not qualified to compete for the Khan position, and Daishan was less qualified than the Emperor Taiji! Therefore, in addition to supporting Dorgon to inherit the Khan's throne, they can only support Emperor Taiji! And they also like to support Huang Taiji to be a big sweat! Because they feel that Huang Taiji has two major disadvantages that others do not have. 1. Huang Taiji has no backstage. Huang Taiji's mother died early, and his uncle was also a sworn enemy of Jianzhou's daughter. If they support Emperor Taiji in succeeding to the Khan throne, then Emperor Taiji can only rely on them. 2. The strength of Huang Taiji is not strong. Huang Taiji has only one flag, the white flag. And they have two red flags. At that time, they can easily control the Emperor Taiji, and they will become the nominal Khan!
Daishan's betrayal was not yet the most fatal blow to Dorgon's side. As long as they can step by step, they can still become the Great Khan!
Having said Daishan, let's talk about the most important person who was concerned with Dorgon's succession to the Khan's throne, Abahai. What was she doing?
Perhaps it was Nurhaci's trust to Daishan that made Abahai feel that everything was complete, so she did not move too much. Perhaps it was the Emperor Taiji who attacked too quickly, and they quickly executed Abba hai so that Aba hai did not have a chance to make a move.
But judging from Abhay's actions, even if she did anything, it would be of little use. Because she will only give small favors to others, and will not use major benefits to bribe others. As a result, they were all bribed by the Emperor Taiji, and no one supported Dolgun!
If Abbahai had the mind of Lü Yan, coupled with Nurhaci's preparations for Dorgon's succession, then Dorgon's succession would have been ironclad. No matter how capable he was, Emperor Taiji could not take away dorgon's Khanate. Even if Daisan betrays them, she can get Daisan to support them again. And if Abhay had the ability of Lü Yan to do good, he would not betray them. Abhay's role is greater than that of Daishan. But her lack of movement eventually caused Dorgon to lose her right to the Khan's throne, and it also caused her to lose her life! In order to obliterate the fact that Nurhaci allowed Dorgon to inherit the Khan's throne, Abahai was strangled with a bowstring a few hours after Nurhaci's death and buried nurhaci!
Abhay died, and Daishan turned against him. This means that Huang Taiji has already won. The next day, after the ascension to the throne, Daishan told Amin and Mang Gultai and other Beylers that they would support Emperor Taiji as the Great Khan of Houjin. They had also been bribed by Huang Taiji long ago, and Dai Shan was exactly what they had in mind. Emperor Taiji thus became the new Great Khan of Houjin. This battle for the Khan's throne ended completely with the victory of Emperor Taiji!
After Emperor Taiji succeeded to the throne, he did not execute Dolgun, but adopted a carrot and stick strategy for Dorgon. He assigned Dorgon's white flag to his son Hauge. He and his son Hauge's two white flags were then replaced with two yellow flags. The two banners of Dordor and Azig, each with 15 cattle records, were merged to form the White Banner, led by Dorgon. After suppressing Dorgon for a while, Emperor Taiji began to appease Dorgon.
The most painful man in this battle for the Khan is Dolgun! It wasn't just that he had lost his rightful sweat, but that he had lost both his father and his mother in one day. The devastation made Dorgon grow up quickly! Later, he was crowned prince of Rui for his merits and wisdom. He tried to seize everything that once belonged to him. Although after the death of Emperor Taiji Dorgon wanted to compete for the throne again. But emperor Taiji had already tied the fence very tightly, and he had no chance to regain the throne that once belonged to him. He later only served as a regent, which is a little bit of compensation for him!
