In the previous article, the author chatted with you a series of stories about the history of various prefecture-level urban areas in Henan Province, such as Luoyang City, Nanyang City and so on. Today, the author talks to you about Puyang City. Unlike other prefecture-level cities in Henan Province, the counties of Puyang are successively under the administration of four provinces. The five counties under the jurisdiction of Puyang City are from the merger of provinces. So, how do the 5 counties of Puyang City be divided into one? Today, we will talk about the story of the changes in Puyang City.
First of all, let's talk about the basic situation of Henan Province. Henan Province is one of China's largest population provinces, one of the major grain provinces, according to the data of the Seven Census Statistics, the total population of Henan Province is close to 100 million people, ranking third in the country. Henan Province is China's large grain province and the main grain supply base in China. Wheat, in particular, is supplied to many provinces in Henan Province. A considerable part of the country's steamed buns, ham sausages, dumplings, tangyuan, etc., come from Henan Province.
Henan Province has a total of 17 prefecture-level cities under its jurisdiction, namely: Zhengzhou City, Kaifeng City, Luoyang City, Pingdingshan City, Jiaozuo City, Hebi City, Xinxiang City, Anyang City, Puyang City, Xuchang City, Luohe City, Sanmenxia City, Nanyang City, Shangqiu City, Xinyang City, Zhoukou City, Zhumadian City. Each prefecture-level city has a different number of districts, counties, and county-level cities under its jurisdiction. Puyang city has 1 district and 5 counties under its jurisdiction, with a total population of more than 3 million, and is located in the northeast of Henan Province.
During the reign of the Ming and Qing dynasties, the division of Henan Province was further formed, dividing various provinces and directly subordinate states. In the mid-17th century, the Qing Dynasty gradually eliminated the various regimes of the Southern Ming Dynasty and the forces of the peasant rebel army, and established its rule over the whole country. And according to their own needs, they have adjusted the divisions of each province and formed a regional pattern of 18 provinces. In Henan Province, various prefectures have been established, namely: Kaifeng Province, Chenzhou Province, Guide Province, Zhangde Province, Weihui Province, Huaiqing Province, Henan Province, Nanyang Province, Runing Province, Zhengzhou, Ruzhou, Xuzhou, Shaanzhou, and Gwangju.
Perhaps you have found that during the reign of the Qing Dynasty, there was no Puyang in the division of Henan Province. Because, the main part of Puyang City was then under the administration of the Daimyo Prefecture of Zhili Province. Zhili Province is the predecessor of Hebei Province, which has 12 provinces and 6 zhili prefectures under its jurisdiction. They are: Shuntianfu, Baodingfu, Tianjinfu, Zhengdingfu, Damingfu, Shundefu, Guangpingfu, Hejianfu, Chengdefu, Chaoyangfu, Xuanhuafu, Yongpingfu, Zunhuazhou, Yizhou, Jizhou, Zhaozhou, Shenzhou, Dingzhou.
Among them, DamingFu administers 1 scattered prefecture and 6 counties, namely: Kaizhou, Yuancheng County, Daming County, Nanle County, Qingfeng County, Dongming County, and Puyang County. Daimyofu belongs to the important town of North China, and in a series of historical materials, the evaluation of Damingfu is very high. It is believed that the Daimyo Province "south of the great river, north of youshuo, east of the sea, west of the party." The boundary is in the Central Plains, the Dudian Heshuo, the Heaven and Earth Hunxiong, and the Pu Mao Qi, which flourish here. The two rivers are controlled in the south and the three auxiliaries in the north domain. ”
In 1912, after the fall of the Qing Dynasty, China entered the stage of warlord chaos. In 1928, zhili province was renamed Hebei Province. At that time, due to years of war, the two provinces of Henan and Hebei were greatly damaged. In the north of Henan and the south of Hebei, a large number of bandits were bred and brutally squeezed by the masses everywhere. Due to the long drought and locust plague, the people's life was very difficult. The Yellow River has been breaking and flooding for many years, forming a large area of yellow pan, which is also a big problem.
In the early days of the founding of the People's Republic of China, with the end of the large-scale war, China entered a period of post-war reconstruction, resumption of production, development and construction. Out of the need to control the Yellow River and eliminate bandits, in 1949, China established The Plain Province. Pingyuan Province consists of five counties in the south of Hebei Province, the area north of the Yellow River in Henan Province, and the northwestern part of Shandong Province. After the establishment of Pingyuan Province, it was divided into 6 special districts, namely: Anyang Special District, Xinxiang Special District, Puyang Special District, Heze Special District, Liaocheng Special District, and Huxi Special District.
Among them, Puyang Special District administers 2 districts and 11 counties, namely: Chengcheng District, Daokou District, Puyang County, Huaxian County, Changyuan County, Fengqiu County, Neihuang County, Qingfeng County, Nanle County, Pu County, Fan County, Guancheng County, and Chaocheng County. In November 1952, Pu County, Fan County, Guancheng County, and Chaocheng County were assigned to the management of Liaocheng Special District. Just over a month later, in December 1952, Pingyuan Province was abolished, and among the 6 special districts under the jurisdiction of Pingyuan Province, Xinxiang Prefecture, Anyang Prefecture and Puyang Prefecture were placed under the administration of Henan Province.
Heze Prefecture, Liaocheng Prefecture and Huxi Prefecture were placed under the administration of Shandong Province, and because the five counties of Nanle County, Qingfeng County, Dongming County, Puyang County and Changyuan County belonged to Hebei Province before the establishment of Pingyuan Province. After the abolition of Pingyuan Province, these five counties were not returned to Hebei Province, but were transferred to the administration of Henan Province. In order to compensate for the losses of Hebei Province, in 1952, Henan Province assigned three counties in the north, including Xiangxian County, Linzhang County and Wu'an County, into the management of Handan Special District of Hebei Province.
In 1954, the Puyang Prefecture was abolished, and the three counties under its jurisdiction were placed under the administration of the Anyang Prefecture. As for Changyuan County, it was placed under the administration of Xinxiang Special District, and Dongming County was placed under the management of Kaifeng Special District. In 1958, after the Anyang Special District was abolished, the counties under its jurisdiction were placed under the administration of the Xinxiang Special District. At this stage, the jurisdiction of the Xinxiang Special District was very large, and it managed almost the entire area north of the Yellow River. Of course, the area of the district is too large, and there are also problems in various aspects.
According to the level of transportation and communication in the 1950s and 1960s, there were too many districts and counties to manage, and it was difficult to manage at all. In 1961, anyang Special District was re-established. Qingfeng County, Nanle County, and Puyang County were re-assigned to the administration of Anyang Special District. In April 1964, due to the actual needs of managing the Yellow River, Dongming County, under the jurisdiction of Kaifeng Special District of Henan Province, was placed under the administration of Shandong Province. At the same time, Shandong Province assigned its own Fan County to the administration of Anyang Special District in Henan Province, and the two sides basically belonged to the "change of land." ”
The zoning outline of Fan County is very narrow and long, and there is no small difficulty in management. Therefore, in 1975, Anyang Special District set up a Taiqian office (county level) in Taiqian Town, Fan County. In 1978, the Taiqian Office was renamed Taiqian County. At the end of the 1970s, China's economy began to develop at a sustained and high speed. In order to meet the needs of economic development, the various areas under the jurisdiction of Henan Province began to be adjusted to prefecture-level cities. The jurisdictions of some of the original prefecture-level cities began to be further expanded.
In 1983, Puyang Prefecture-level City was established. Nanle County, Qingfeng County, Puyang County, Fan County, Taiqian County, Neihuang County, Huaxian County and other 7 counties are assigned to the administration of Puyang City. However, this pattern of zoning lasted only 3 years. In 1986, Neihuang County and Huaxian County were re-assigned to the administration of Anyang City. By this time, the zoning pattern of Puyang City was fully formed, with a total of 5 counties under its jurisdiction.
Of the five counties, 3 are from Hebei Province and 2 are from Shandong Province. In terms of specific affiliations, it has successively belonged to Hebei Province, Shandong Province, Pingyuan Province, and Henan Province. At present, Puyang City has become an important city in the north of Henan Province. In particular, the construction of high-speed rail is crucial to the development of Puyang City, which has greatly promoted the economic development of Puyang City.
There are many more stories about the adjustment of regional divisions in China, and the author will talk to you slowly in future articles.
