However, helplessly, the command was not effective, and the unprofessional people managed the professional affairs, which eventually led to the failure of the Northern Expedition and the loss of three famous generals. These three are Cao Bin, Pan Mei, and Yang Ye.
The overall plan of Song Taizong's Northern Expedition this time was to divide the troops into three roads, and this plan was no problem, and the commander of the Eastern Route Army was Cao Bin, who was actually very talented in the military.
Helplessly, during the war, Song Taizong made the mistake of commanding beyond his authority, as the saying goes, he would not be allowed to be exempted from foreign military orders, because the situation on the battlefield was changing rapidly, and the general had to adapt to changes.

In the end, Cao Bin, who had experienced hundreds of battles, made several minor command mistakes, and finally the Eastern Route Army lost and had to retreat, but the emperor made a mistake in command.
Cao Bin could not put the responsibility on the emperor, and could only take responsibility for himself. After the defeat of the Eastern Route Army began to retreat, Emperor Taizong of Song asked the Western Route Army to retreat as well.
If the retreat was carried out step by step, it would be fine, but the supervising army Wang Nong forced Yang Ye to fight, and Yang Ye thought that he could not leave the station, because the Liao army was full of momentum, and he deliberately said that Yang Ye did not go to war because he had different intentions.
In order to prove his loyalty to the Song Dynasty, Yang Ye was forced to send troops, and finally went deep alone, resulting in the total annihilation of the army. Yang Ye finally went on a hunger strike and was martyred.
Why did Wang Nong frame Yang Ye
