To really do learning and studying science, we must not only be indifferent to fame and fortune, and be willing to sit on the cold bench, but also have no distraction and dedication in order to climb the peak of science.

A selection of articles included in this Anthology is briefly described.
First, the selected articles are divided into volumes according to their content and nature, which are divided into "Marxism" (Volume 1), "Philosophy" (Volumes 2, 3, and 4), "Aesthetics" (Volumes 5 and 6), "Political Theory and Essays" (Volume 7), and "Translations" (Volume 8). The articles in each volume are basically arranged in chronological order of publication.
Second, the articles included in the Anthology were written between 1956 and 2018, more than one nail, which is the era of earth-shaking changes between China and the world. Therefore, these articles were inevitably influenced by the environment at that time and carried the imprint of the times, and the compilation of the "Anthology" this time, except for the necessary text deletions and corrections to individual articles, generally remained in their original appearance and did not change them, but I still believed in Chernyshevsky's advice: It is not appropriate for a person to modify the words he wrote when he was young in old age.
Third, this compilation work also gave me a good opportunity to re-examine my past writings and conduct self-reflection. After examination, some articles were not included in the "Anthology" because: (1) Some papers did not proceed from China's actual conditions, did not understand the specific situation, and under the influence of "Left" ideology, they arbitrarily commented on the economic laws of China's transitional period according to some articles in the books, which is really not advisable; (2) There are also articles that violate Mr. Lu Xun's teaching that "insults are not battles" and replace serious analysis and criticism with denunciation and reprimand, such as comments on the novels of american writer Fasti, which is also not advisable; (III) What is more difficult to deal with is that some articles written in the 1960s participated in the controversy of philosophy and literary theory at that time, and it should be said that the original intention was to participate in the academic controversy and carry out academic discussions. Dissenting opinions on academic issues should have been resolved through free discussion, but no one expected that they would later be exploited and transformed into political criticism. In view of this, such articles are not included in the Anthology, and it is best to be forgotten.
Fourth, some of the articles in the Anthology have received guidance and help from my mentor, Mr. He Lin, and some seniors and leaders in the theoretical circles when they were written, and I would like to express my remembrance and gratitude to them.
