On January 20, the website of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the French Republic of France released "The Spokesperson of the Embassy in France Answers Journalists' Questions on the Adoption of Xinjiang-related Resolutions by the French National Assembly"
Q: On January 20, the French National Assembly passed an unconsupersive resolution calling the Chinese government guilty of "genocide" against the Uighurs and demanding that the French government "formally recognize and condemn it." What is the Chinese Embassy's comment on this?
A: We firmly oppose and strongly condemn the relevant resolutions, which disregard facts and common sense, deliberately slander and smear China, and grossly interfere in China's internal affairs.
The Chinese side has held strong dialogues with the French side on this issue on many occasions and at multiple levels, and has clearly and seriously pointed out to it that the essence of Xinjiang-related issues is not ethnic, religious and human rights issues, but anti-violence and terrorism, de-radicalization and anti-separatism issues, which concern China's sovereignty, territorial integrity and national security. The so-called "genocide" and other arguments in Xinjiang are completely fabricated outright lies based on prejudice and hostility toward China, and their purpose is not to protect human rights at all, but to suppress and contain China and undermine ethnic unity and stable development in Xinjiang.
We expressed strong concern that the bill could seriously damage Sino-French relations and France's credibility and image in the eyes of the Chinese people. The French side is well aware of the absurdity and harmfulness of the bill in question. We hope that they will be consistent in appearance and safeguard the healthy development of Sino-French relations with practical actions.
