Prior to the combat exercises, submarines were deployed in advance, and ships of the Russian Pacific Fleet, aircraft and drones of the Naval Aviation Corps provided support for the missile launch.

The Walkhov is the second of six Kilo-class submarines built for the Pacific Fleet. This type of submarine is the world's quietest third-generation diesel-electric submarine. These attack submarines are mainly used for anti-ship and anti-submarine warfare in shallow waters. They have an underwater velocity of 18 knots, a diving depth of 300 meters, and a cruising capacity of 45 days. Laid in July 2017 and launched in December 2019, construction of the series is on schedule and will be completed in 2022.
