The Long March of the Red Army wrote a major miracle in the world's military history. The soldiers of the Red Army used their willpower to crush the enemy's encirclement and blockade, and finally achieved victory. Ultimately, however, revolutions have to be sacrificed. When the three main forces of the Red Army met the division in northern Shaanxi, there were only more than 30,000 people left. You can imagine the brutality of the battle. In the course of the Red Army's Long March, a story occurred: a Political Commissar of the Red Army was seriously injured and was eventually saved by a farmer in Chongqing. This Red Army commissar later became the founding major general. A few years later, the major general found the old farmer who had rescued him and asked him what he needed. The old farmer only made a wish, and this wish touched the major general.
The tragedy of the Qiandong Independent Division
In 1933, the Red Second Army appointed Duan Suquan as the political commissar of the Independent Division of the Second Army. At this time, Duan Suquan had only been in the Red Army for more than a year, so it was not difficult to see from this that the leaders of the Red Army had trusted Duan Suquan. In 1934, the Red 26th Army prepared for the Western Expedition. Before the Western Expedition, the leadership of the corps gave the independent division a task: on the one hand, to cover the withdrawal of large troops from the Guizhou area, and on the other hand, to establish a base area in the east of Guizhou, to drag down the enemy's pursuing troops, and to strengthen our strength.
The warlords in Sichuan and Guizhou did not know the details of the Qiandong Independent Division, and even thought that this might be the main force of the Red Army. Therefore, a large force was dispatched to attack the Qiandong Independent Division. During the battle, Duan Suquan was seriously wounded. Therefore, Duan Suquan made a suggestion to the division commander: that is, to leave himself behind to fight guerrillas and withdraw large troops. At first, the division commander refused to say anything, but later Duan Suquan said: He can't drag the whole unit alone, and besides, he just wants to find a place to recuperate, and when the wounds are healed, he will still find the troops. The division commander had no choice but to agree.
Duan Suquan thus temporarily broke away from the army. Shortly after Duan Suquan left the Independent Division, the Independent Division was surrounded by the enemy's absolute superiority in troops, and eventually the entire army was destroyed. The division commander also gloriously sacrificed himself for the cause of the people's liberation.
2. Kind old farmers
After Duan Suquan left the army, in the strange Qiandong, he could be said to be unfamiliar with life. Soon, Duan Suquan's livelihood was in trouble. During this period, Su Quan's injuries were mainly in his legs. Duan Suquan could not walk, and his condition was discovered by an old local farmer. The old farmer, out of pity for the young man, placed the young man and provided him with rations. However, Duan Suquan soon found that the old man's own family could not eat enough, and if he relied on the relief of the old man, he would definitely add great trouble to the family. So Duan Suquan made a request to the old farmer: Can you make yourself a pair of crutches? This allows you to return to your hometown or find your own team. The old farmer originally wanted to keep Duan Suquan for a few more days, and then let him leave after Duan Suquan's legs and feet were better, but Duan Suquan insisted on refusing, and the old farmer had to agree to Duan Suquan's request.
3. Red Army Bridge
After Duan Suquan left Qiandong, he found our army and completed his return. Duan Suquan later fought in other battles and was eventually awarded the rank of major general in 1955.
Duan Suquan has not forgotten the kindness of the old farmer for so many years, and for this reason, he has dragged many people to help him find the whereabouts of the old farmer, and finally in the 80s, fifty years after he was helped by the old farmer, he found the old farmer. At this time, the old farmer was in his nineties. Duan Suquan was glad that he could repay the favor while the old farmer was still alive.
Duan Suquan asked the old farmer what needs? I will definitely help the old farmers realize their wishes to the greatest extent. The old farmer remembered the events of fifty years ago and suddenly felt a sense of vicissitudes. He thought about it for a moment and said to Duan Suquan:
The traffic in our village is too poor. Lacking a small bridge, can you help our village build a bridge?
That's it? Duan Suquan was surprised. Because the old farmer is not asking for any welfare for himself, but is thinking about the village. Duan Suquan then remembered the past fifty years ago and was deeply moved.
So Duan Suquan funded the construction of a Red Army bridge in the local area.
