"Is Sun Yuan here?" The reporter stood on the mountainside and shouted at the archaeological site below.
"Here, here!" I didn't see a shadow, but I heard the voice first. After a while, a girl in a blue cotton coat ran out from behind the tree, waving at us with a smile and pointing the way in three words.
"Quick talk, crisp and clean" is the most true and appropriate portrayal of Sun Yuan.
Sun Yuan, graduated from Jilin University in 2006 with a master's degree in archaeology and museology, is a professional and technical personnel of the Hangzhou Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology. Although cheerful and lively, once faced with the beloved archaeological career, Sun Yuan can immediately calm down and deeply integrate into the project.
Love archaeology can be dynamic and static
This year, Sun Yuan was responsible for the excavation of a religious site, and while taking us to see the ruins, she explained: "We found a group of large architectural remains composed of octagonal rammed earth platforms, patios, corridors, steps, scattered water, drainage ditches, etc. The ruins are large in scale, clear in structure and well preserved. ”
Under the leadership of Sun Yuan, we walked all the way to the back mountain, and saw a well on the back mountain, and the probe looked inside, and there was no bottom.
Sun Yuan said that when she first excavated, she thought it was a ash pit. As the excavation progressed, it was determined that it was a well. Since there is no brick well wall, it is considered to be an earthen well. Digging all the way to a depth of 8 meters, brick well walls were found. During the excavation process, blue and white, multicolored and other porcelain pieces constantly appeared in the well, indicating that the age of the well abandonment was relatively late. Through literature combing and research, it can be preliminarily determined that this well was built in the Northern Song Dynasty.
"Archaeology is like a police detective, you have to peel back the cocoon to see the real chapter." Sun Yuan said that this discovery provides detailed information for understanding the characteristics, construction methods, scale and shape of the main buildings of the site in different periods, and also has important historical significance and academic value for the study of ancient religious buildings.
Over the years, Sun Yuan has participated in a lot of field archaeological investigations and excavations.
In 2014, he participated in the investigation of the kiln site in Lin'an district of Hangzhou and completed the survey briefing; in 2015, he participated in the archaeological excavation of the Beihaitang site in Tangwan Village, Beigan Street, Xiaoshan District, Hangzhou, and the project won the "2015 Zhejiang Important Archaeological New Discoveries" award issued by the Zhejiang Provincial Bureau of Cultural Heritage; in 2016, he participated in the archaeological excavation of the Luojiawu Ancient Tomb Group in Xiaoshan District; in 2018, he completed the archaeological survey and physical exploration report of the Beifeng Pagoda site; and from 2018 to 2019, he participated in the archaeological excavation of the Shengguo Temple site...
Public archaeology is to be played professionally
How to transform the results of archaeological excavations into easy-to-understand language, so that professional excavation and research materials can be displayed to the public in a popular form?
"At first, I was a bit confused, but I didn't know what to do and where to start? But since there is no pattern to refer to, let's grope for it!"
Since 2013, Sun Yuan has planned a number of "Golden Shovel - Public Archaeology of Hangzhou Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology" series of activities. According to the progress of the work of the unit, organize different social groups such as student groups and youth members in a timely and appropriate manner to carry out experiences such as "archaeological excavation", "archaeological exploration", "cultural relics restoration" and "archaeological drawing". Participants can not only deeply appreciate the charm of cultural relics, but also more correctly understand the significance and value of cultural relics protection. At the same time, she also specially designed the event LOGO, developed corresponding cultural and creative products such as "archaeological notes" and "golden hand shovel small seal", and achieved good social results.
It not only introduces Hangzhou's cultural heritage to the public, but also introduces it to the world.
Before the G20 Hangzhou Summit, Sun Yuan accepted a new task - to integrate the archaeological projects made by the Institute of Archaeology around the West Lake over the years, and to show the heritage and charm of the West Lake from an archaeological perspective and perspective.
"With so much more to do, this task can only be squeezed out of time." Sun Yuan said. In August 2016, the public archaeological book "Searching for Ancients by the Lake" edited by Sun Yuan was officially published and distributed by Zhejiang People's Fine Arts Publishing House. This "alternative" report in archaeology, based on archaeological discoveries in the cultural heritage area of the West Lake, integrates a variety of elements such as cultural relics, history, character stories and personal emotions, and integrates interestingness, readability and knowledge, and has been widely praised by the industry and outside. At the same time, she also based on the book "Lakeside Ancients" as a model, created a text plan for the exhibition "Lakeside Ancients - Telling the Story of West Lake Archaeology", the exhibition was exhibited in the temporary exhibition hall of the West Lake Museum from August to September of that year, Sun Yuan also held a special lecture in the museum, and gave a detailed introduction to more than 30 archaeological projects around the West Lake such as Wuyue Suburban Altar, Southern Song Dynasty Official Kiln, Qingxing Palace, Leifeng Pagoda, Lingyin Temple Law Hall, etc.
Sun Yuan said that although it is very hard for outsiders to see our archaeology, who does not work hard? "I hope that the archaeology cause in Hangzhou can make the cultural heritage present a different and wonderful intersection of history and reality through the hands and minds of our archaeologists." Sun Yuan said.
