Among them, the Great Wall earlier announced that its annual sales volume in 2021 will reach 1.28 million units, of which the sales volume in overseas markets exceeded 140,000 units.
Chery will sell a total of 961,900 units in 2021, of which 269,000 units will be sold in overseas markets.
Geely's total sales in 2021 exceeded 1.328 million units, of which overseas market sales accounted for 115,000 units.
SAIC Motor continues to maintain the status of "export brother", with a total wholesale volume of 5.464 million units in 2021 (a total of all SAIC brands), of which 697,000 units are sold overseas, while MG continues to be the sales force in overseas markets, selling 360,000 units in overseas markets throughout the year, making it the Chinese brand with the highest sales volume in foreign markets.
Compared with these boring data, I believe more friends want to know: what kind of cars are sold abroad by independent brands? What is the difference between the models we bought in China?
Pickup trucks are Great Wall Motors' "traditional hot products" in overseas markets, and since Great Wall launched a new main pickup truck - cannon series in 2020, this new car has also landed in more than 50 overseas countries and regions in 2021.
The Great Wall Cannon gained two English names after exporting to overseas markets: POER and CANNON.
POER is actually a transliteration of Chinese "cannon", while CANNON comes from the English transliteration of "cannon".
In the domestic market, the Great Wall Gun offers three power configurations, namely a 2.0T gasoline engine that can output 190 horsepower, a 2.0T diesel engine that can output 163 horsepower, and a pure electric power system that can output a total of 204 horsepower.

Among them, one-click start, Apple CarPlay, active safety system and ACC adaptive cruise are standard, which is slightly thicker than domestic models at the same price in terms of intelligent configuration; but only the version with a price of more than 168,300 provides a four-wheel drive system, and the domestic version of 166,800 can also be equipped with two differential locks on the basis of four-wheel drive.
In terms of SUV products, Great Wall sells mainly Haval first love and H6 two star models overseas, of which the first love is named JOLION in foreign countries, and the whole series is equipped with a 10.25-inch central control screen, Apple CarPlay, lane departure warning, ACC adaptive cruise and fatigue monitoring system, priced at 27490-32990 Australian dollars. As for the H6, the latest third-generation model is currently only available in overseas 2.0T models, priced at 32990-39990 Australian dollars, equivalent to about 15.00-18.18 million yuan, intelligent configuration and domestic third-generation H6 2.0T models are comparable, but the price is 1.3-5.29 million yuan more expensive.
Chery sells a wide variety of models in overseas markets, except for a few newer products, which are basically synchronized with the products sold in the domestic market.
However, there are some models that are named differently from those in China, such as the Arrizo 5 PLUS, which was renamed the Arrizo 6 PRO in overseas markets.
Taking the Brazilian market as an example, the price of Therazi 6 PRO in the local area is 142,500 Brazilian reals, equivalent to about 165,300 yuan, in addition to the 10.25-inch full LCD instrument and 10.25-inch central control touch screen than the domestic Arrizo GX one circle, the configuration is basically no obvious difference, but compared to the domestic price of 69,990-9.99 million, the overseas Arrizo 6 PRO is a lot more expensive.
Geely's models sold overseas are mainly SUVs, mainly coolray, ATLAS and TUGELLA, and all of which use different naming methods from China.
However, most of these models sold overseas are "disconnected" from the domestic market.
Taking the Boyue series as an example, overseas markets are still selling the 2020 Boyue and Boyue PRO, while the same model has been updated to 2022 in China and the latest Boyue X has been launched.

There is also a more obvious gap in configuration, the overseas version of the Boyue PRO only provides a 1.5T three-cylinder engine that can output 177 horsepower; while domestic consumers can buy a version of the 1.8T four-cylinder engine for only 116,800 yuan.
As for the export champion MG of Chinese brands, since it originated in the United Kingdom, it is one of the few Chinese brands with the European market as the main export place.
However, MG's models sold in Europe are not as rich and diverse as in China, and all MG cars sold in China are not exported to the European market.
Most of the models sold in Europe are small and compact SUVs, such as ZS and HS; or the MG 3, a five-door hatchback car that has been discontinued in China, and the MG5 EV (Roewe Ei5) sold in China.
As for the price, the price of a most beginner MG 3 in the UK is 12,800-14,300 pounds, equivalent to about 11.01-12.30 million yuan, which is really expensive.
However, although the price is not cheap, the configuration is not very bad; for example, the 8-inch central control touch screen, Apple CarPlay, and the speaker of up to 6 speakers are all very practical configurations.
And like the ZS, this small SUV, the price is also 165-1.88 million pounds, equivalent to 141,500-16.12 million yuan, compared with the domestic price of 7.88-11.28 million, it is really much higher.
Looking at these Chinese cars working hard in overseas markets, it is not difficult to find that in fact, whether it is Chinese or foreign, consumers actually mostly like to buy SUV models.
Although the price of the SUV model launched by Chinese brands is higher than that of the domestic market, compared with the products launched in Europe and the United States, the cost performance is still relatively advantageous, so it is also welcomed by many foreign consumers.
However, you may also notice that in fact, in the annual sales data of various Chinese brands, the proportion of export models is not high, indicating that their sales in overseas markets actually have a lot of room for improvement.
In addition to MG, which was originally born in Europe and was only later acquired by Chinese companies, most of the chinese independent brands in the true sense are only sold in Eastern Europe, South America, Africa and other regions, and it is more difficult to reach consumers in developed countries such as Western Europe and North America.
This is nothing more than because Chinese brands still have a certain gap in terms of popularity and recognition compared to those traditional global brands.
Even in the domestic market, consumers are not yet able to fully recognize the products of their own brands, especially in the field of traditional fuel vehicles, there is still a technical gap between Chinese brands and well-known overseas brands.
In Eastern Europe, Africa and other regions, the models launched by those well-known brands are more expensive, and at this time, Chinese brands can show their price advantages as they did in the domestic market, attracting more consumer attention.
But when these products reach developed countries in Europe and the United States, the price advantage between Chinese brands and those powerful local opponents will be greatly reduced.
In addition, in the home of those European and American big names, the shortcomings of brand influence and market recognition are even more significant, and it is really difficult to obtain the ideal market performance.
However, there are exceptions, such as Hongqi's earlier export to the Japanese market for the first time.
This highly representative Chinese luxury brand sells the main sedan H9 in Japan, although fans seem to be not optimistic, but recently we have seen some Japanese consumers buy the Hongqi H9 news.
However, this is indeed a special situation, after all, the Hongqi brand itself has a long history of development, and at the same time has a strong high-end image and cultural representation, so it has a high reputation overseas and can be recognized by overseas consumers.
The accumulation of technology and culture is the only way for Chinese brands to go abroad and carry forward.
Chinese brands are also constantly exploring and making progress, especially in the new energy era, which has brought more opportunities to independent brands.
Not to mention that more and more foreign media are now paying attention to the development of China's new energy vehicle technology, new energy giants such as BYD have also entered the market of developed countries with pure electric buses and pure electric trucks, and their influence in the world is getting stronger and stronger.
Therefore, BYD has recently brought its main sedan, Han, to the United States for road testing, and it seems that China's new energy vehicles have directly challenged Tesla in the United States.
But in any case, Chinese cars are getting better and better, gradually narrowing the gap with overseas brands, especially in the field of new energy, and even completed the transcendence of traditional car brands, which we are happy to see.
