In 1977, a bronze mirror was excavated from Tomb No. 5 of Shuangdun in Qinzhou City, Guangxi Province. It was identified as a copper mirror from the Sui Dynasty. The ornamentation on the bronze mirror is very exquisite, and the reliefs include green dragons, white tigers, unicorns and other beasts, as well as the twelve zodiac signs.
The Sui and Tang dynasties were the heyday of the history of the development of copper mirrors on the mainland. At this time, the copper mirror shape is diverse, the ornamentation is complicated, and the craftsmanship is exquisite and delicate. In addition to the round and square copper mirrors, it also adds diamond-shaped, sunflower-shaped and other shapes, giving people a high-end atmosphere on the grade, which not only enhances the ornamentality of the copper mirrors, but also becomes a high-grade artwork for gifts to relatives and friends.
From this bronze mirror, we can see that the change in the image of the tiger in history occurred during the Sui and Tang dynasties.
