The 2022 Winter Olympics kicked off on 4 February, and skiing has long been one of the hottest sports this winter.
Wearing a ski hat, wearing a ski suit, pedaling down a snowboard... Because skiing has the characteristics of both speed and passion, it also means that this is a sport with a high risk of sports, and the slightest carelessness in skiing may cause accidents and cause unnecessary injuries. Therefore, whether it is a novice or a veteran, the importance of safety protection cannot be underestimated. In order to let everyone better enjoy the joy of ice and snow, Jimu News specially invited Zhou Jianlin, deputy director of the Department of Osteoarticular Surgery of Wuhan University People's Hospital, to talk to you about the precautions of skiing and the treatment of common accidental injuries in ice and snow sports.
The most vulnerable thing to skiing is the knee
During the Spring Festival holiday, many people try to ski early for excitement, and it is not uncommon for citizens to suffer fractures or trauma due to skiing. Only in the Department of Osteoarticular Surgery of Wuhan University People's Hospital, the Spring Festival has not yet passed, and more than 10 patients have been treated because of skiing knees, or fractures, many of which are specially treated after falling back to Han.
Xiao Liu, 26, is one of them, taking advantage of the Spring Festival holiday to go home and ski with his classmates. As a result, I fell not long after I was on the track, and I only felt a slight pain at that time, thinking that it would be difficult to slide the snow once, so I got up and continued to slide for a while before giving up. Unexpectedly, after returning home, Xiao Liu's knee pain and swelling became more and more obvious, and it was difficult to even walk. After rushing back to Wuhan, Xiao Liu came to the People's Hospital of Wuhan University on February 3 to check and found that it was already a patellar dislocation with ligament injury and required surgical treatment.
"The most common thing in skiing is knee injury." Zhou Jianlin, deputy director of the Department of Osteoarticular Surgery of Wuhan University People's Hospital, introduced that because of the repeated and sharp changes in height, speed and direction when skiing, once the movement process due to falling, tripping or doing sharp turning, resulting in valgus, rotation is very easy to cause damage to the medial collateral ligament, if the injury is not stopped in time to continue to slide, there will be anterior cruciate ligament damage and tear, and may even bring irreversible damage to the knee joint.
After knee trauma, it may also be accompanied by meniscus tears, joint cartilage injuries, knee fractures, etc. In addition to knee injuries, other common ski injuries include injuries to the lower ankle, shoulder and wrist joints. "Wrist injuries, in particular, are also common among skiers." Zhou Jianlin said that this is mostly caused by skiers holding the ground with their palms on the ground when they fall. He explained that many beginners always instinctively extend their arms to prevent their bodies from touching the ground when they fall, and the impact of such falls can cause wrist contusions and even fractures.
Learn the safe "wrestling method" of "going with the flow"
Ski falling is a process that many skiers will experience, and it is particularly important to learn the safe "wrestling method" of "homeopathy". "Yesterday, I just received a 46-year-old male patient who accidentally fell while skiing, and it was without taking homeopathic protection measures that directly touched the shoulder joint and caused a fracture of the proximal humerus on the right side with dislocation." Zhou Jianlin reminded: When skiing, when you feel that your body loses balance, you should fall backwards with the trend, naturally slide down with the slope, and wait for it to slowly stop. Do not use your hands to support when you fall, do not move your hands and feet, do not take confrontational movements, raise your hands, bend over, slide down naturally, pay attention to avoid head down, and avoid tumbling.
In addition, it is recommended that ski enthusiasts warm up for 10-15 minutes before skiing to increase blood flow and muscle oxygen content, and help the body adapt to the next exercise as soon as possible. At the same time, all skiers should wear helmets, and it is important to choose the right protective gear. Helmets can prevent the risk of head impact, which is a "life-saving magic weapon" at critical times. In addition, protective gear such as armor, hip pads (especially snowboarding), knee pads, and wrist pads can be worn in a targeted manner. Citizens need to consult professionals on the correct skiing posture before skiing, beginners are best under the guidance of professionals, choose a simple beginner track to skate, do not blindly challenge the advanced track, so as not to cause serious consequences.
Accidentally injured, learn to deal with emergency treatment
Once injured, do not panic, maintain composure, and follow the three principles of "braking, ice and elevating the affected limb" to carry out simple self-help on the spot.
First of all, seek the help of the surrounding personnel, away from the slide, to avoid re-trauma; second, try not to move the injured part, take ice, raise the affected limb, use the existing tools at hand to carry out simple temporary strapping and fixing of the injured part; third, timely dial 120 emergency or seek medical treatment nearby, and professional medical personnel will carry out professional medical treatment.
Skiing is a competitive sport that has high requirements for the balance control and strength of the human body. Therefore, if the population with organic diseases itself is more than usual, joint diseases, arthritis, meniscal injuries, cartilage injuries, etc., or there are lumbar diseases such as lumbar disc herniation, etc., or with cardiopulmonary diseases such as arrhythmias, hypertension, myocardial diseases, etc., it is not suitable to participate in this sport with both speed and passion.
