In the short track speed skating arena on the evening of the 5th, Lee Man Lung appeared in the fifth group of the men's 1000m qualifying, with world record holder Hwang Dae-hyun of South Korea. In the competition, Li Wenlong, who started from the outermost road, won the third place in the group. According to the rules, in addition to the top two, the remaining 4 fastest third places can advance. Li Wenlong was one of the fastest 4 third places in the preliminaries and thus successfully advanced to the next round.
Born in 2001, Li Wenlong joined the Qingdao short track speed skating team at the age of 11, where he studied under short track speed skating coaches Yang Zhanyu and Liu Xiaoying, focusing on the men's middle and long distance events. Li Wenlong practiced solid basic skills in the team and slid towards his dream step by step. In 2017, Li Wenlong was selected for the short track speed skating national team for the first time. In the 2018-2019 Short Track Speed Skating World Cup in Salt Lake City, USA, Li Wenlong finished second in the men's 5,000m relay. In 2019, Li Wenlong teamed up with his teammates to help the Chinese team win the championship and break the world youth record in the men's 3000m relay final of the ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Youth Championships. In addition, he has won the men's 1500m event at the 2019 National Short Track Speed Skating Championships and the Men's 1500m event at the 2020-2021 National Short Track Speed Skating Championships. As the first Shandong athlete, Li Wenlong was successfully selected for the Chinese speed skating team and competed in the Winter Olympics.
At the Beijing Winter Olympics, a total of five athletes from Shandong were officially selected for the Chinese Winter Olympics delegation: Li Wenlong in the men's short track speed skating event; Mao Bingqiang in the men's freestyle ski U-shaped event; Li Fanghui in the women's freestyle ski U-shaped event; Hades Badri Khan in the men's cross-country skiing event and Tan Yinghui in the women's snowmobile event.
