On Saturday night, Marari was shot dead in his apartment in Johannesburg, which police speculated was not a random homicide but a premeditated homicide.
In his native South Africa, Malari won the gold medal in boxing at the 7th All-Africa Games in 1999 and managed to get a ticket to the Olympic Games, but he was expelled from the national team due to a positive drug test that was said to have marijuana ingredients.
The 23-year-old Manari did not want to wait four years later for the unknown Olympic competition to become a professional boxer, and has since won the South African National Boxing Championship, the WBF World Champion and the IBO World Champion Gold Belt. In October 2015 he hung up his boxing holster and retired with a professional record of 30-24, 18 KO.
Marari's death also shocked the boxing community. His family wants the murder to be brought to justice. They described him as a kind man.
"I was very shocked because I didn't expect Manari to die soon because it was right here in December 2021 and we were together. When he came from Johannesburg, he always came to my house and we would chat together. He's a very nice guy, he communicates well with his family, he's a good guy," said fellow Sidwell.
The province's sports fraternity praised Manari as an outstanding boxer. Pakamir Jacobs, head of the South African Boxing Association, said: "We will remember him, he was a very humble, soft-spoken young man. We will also remember him as a passionate man. ”
