But in 2022, the situation has changed dramatically, with most of NBC's all-platform Super Bowl slots sold out, with only a few pre-game ad slots left.

The price of Super Bowl ads has been in the spotlight for its ultra-high cost. According to Nielsen Media Research, the average cost of a 30-second prime-time ad on u.S. television networks is $115,000, a figure that was surpassed by the Super Bowl as early as the 1970s.

Most Super Bowl advertisers come from the automotive and food and beverage industries.

A 2020 Fox analysis shows that Honda, FedEx, Miller, Dodge, Toyota, Ford, McDonald's, Coca-Cola, PepsiCo and Budweiser are the companies that have spent the most on the Super Bowl over the years, with Budweiser spending $449.5 million on 135 ads.
