On the morning of February 9, in the Women's Snowboard U-Shaped Venue Qualification Tournament for the Beijing Winter Olympics, Maltese athlete Janice Spitery made a mistake in the first round of skating, and while standing in the end zone waiting for the score to be announced, she took a bean pastebag from her pocket and ate it. In an interview after the game, she said: "I took two bean paste buns before going out in the morning, but I didn't finish eating them in the morning. I made a mistake in the first round of skating, and when I stood there, I suddenly found that I still had a bean paste bag in my pocket, so I wanted to simply take a bite, soothe my wounded heart after the mistake, and give myself a little sweetness. ”

In the second round of skating, although Spitery did not make a major mistake, the difficulty of the action and the height of the air were too low, and finally won the 21st place in the qualification round, unfortunately missing the final. Walking off the venue, she looked very excited in front of a large number of reporters, and even took out her mobile phone to take a group photo with all the reporters present, and then she said with some regret: "I hope that today is my day, although it is not, but I am also very happy." ”

Talking about why she took out a bean sandbag to eat in the end area, she explained: "After coming here, I like to eat bean sandbags very, very much, three times a day, two in the morning, two in the evening. This morning the game was very early, I didn't have much appetite, and I didn't finish eating the bean paste. After the first round of gliding, I suddenly found that I still had unfinished bean paste in my pocket, so I thought about taking it out and taking a bite. ”

Born in 1992, Spitery was Malta's only athlete to compete in the Beijing Winter Olympics and malta's flag bearer at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Winter Olympics. Spitery's mother, a figure skater and a father a skater, began practicing figure skating at an early age, but did not start snowboarding until he was 18 years old when he was in college. Someone once told her that it was too late to start snowboarding at the age of 18, but Spitery said: "I have believed since I was 7 years old that if you have enough determination and enthusiasm, you can achieve anything, and never let others tell you that it is too late." In 2011, Spitery began competing in professional FIS events, and despite her mediocre results, she has been working hard.

In 2018, Spitery missed the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics due to injury, but she caught up with the Beijing Winter Olympics and became Malta's standard-bearer. Spitery said: "I am proud to be the only athlete in Malta to participate in the Beijing Winter Olympics, and if my grandfather could know that I was wearing a sportswear with the Maltese flag on it, he would be proud of me." Malta is not big, and many people don't even know that it exists, but if I let many people know about Malta, then I would be even more proud. Malta is really beautiful and everyone is welcome. ”

Speaking about the Beijing Winter Olympics, Spitery said that everything here is perfect, she said: "The venue is really beautiful, but the track is also very difficult, the atmosphere of the competition is very good, everyone is friendly, I have a lot of fun here." In particular, the epidemic prevention here is very good, and I feel very safe here. ”
