In July 1984, a Vietnamese special agent team infiltrated the mainland and actually sneaked into the most advanced Simberlin radar imported by our army from Britain, and Deng Xiaoping was greatly angered, and the platoon leader was sentenced to 2 years and the squad leader to 7 years!
The "Simberlin" radar is one of the most advanced artillery detection radars in the world (3 units imported in total) imported from the United Kingdom at a price of 240,000 pounds each. This radar can calculate the enemy position through the parabolic curve of the enemy shell, so that our army can accurately lock the Vietnamese artillery position within 20 kilometers in 8 seconds, often hitting the Vietnamese army. This also made our artillery in an absolutely suppressed position on the front line of the two mountains, which made the Vietnamese army afraid and frightened. However, such a new equipment with first-class performance was inadvertently attacked by the Vietnamese army.
In the Battle of the Two Mountains, in order to regain the initiative in the battlefield of the Lao Shan Theater, the Vietnamese army formulated the "Northern Light Plan" in an attempt to capture Lao Shan with large-scale troops. In order to smoothly implement the plan, the Vietnamese army often sends special teams to infiltrate our territory to carry out sabotage and raiding missions, mainly kidnapping border residents in our territory and sneaking into military targets such as our army's command post, ammunition depot and radar station. It is worth mentioning that the strength of the Vietnamese special agents can not be underestimated, during the War of Resistance Against the United States, 6 Vietnamese agents sneaked into the US military port and sank a US aircraft carrier.
At about 11:30 p.m. on July 4, 1984, a squad of agents from a platoon of the 821st Special Agent Regiment of the Vietnamese Army sneaked into the mainland from the passes on both sides of the 1134 elevation point. This group of Vietnamese agents then successfully infiltrated our territory by advancing point by point, taking advantage of the weak defensive area of the combined unit of our 40th Division and the 15th Border Defense Regiment. In the early morning of the 5th, Vietnamese agents arrived at the Baishi rock area near our army's "Simberlin" radar position, and they found a very hidden cave to lurk in.
On the 5th and half night of the day, Vietnamese agents disguised themselves as our border people and quietly made close observations of our artillery positions and "Simberlin" radar positions in the Baishiyan area. The cunning Vietnamese special agent team formulated a careful action plan, and at 0:30 a.m. on the 6th, the Vietnamese special agent team was divided into 5 groups. One group remained behind to receive and guard the hidden caves; one group pretended to attack our army's mortar positions; one group pretended to attack the positions of 3 platoons of the 9th company of our 122 regiment; and the other two groups attacked our army's "Simberlin" radar positions left and right.
The Vietnamese agents worked well together, and the teams approached their respective targets as planned, but none of them rushed to attack. The Vietnamese special agent team that sneaked into the "Simberlin" radar position first tied explosives to the radar, and then laid mines in front of my radar tent. Then the 4 groups of Vietnamese agents opened fire at almost 2:30 at the same time, no more than 10 seconds apart from each other! Our radar soldiers heard the explosion outside the tent and rushed out, but they were blown down by a tripping mine planted by Vietnamese agents.
At the same time, the mortars of our mortar positions were also destroyed by bombs of Vietnamese agents, and two nearby cars were also destroyed. Although the soldiers of our army fought back heroically, due to the surprise attack and the confusion of the enemy's situation, there were heavy casualties. A total of 10 soldiers of our army were unfortunately killed and 49 wounded, while the Vietnamese side killed 1 person and 10 were wounded (basically by mistake by their own friendly troops). The Vietnamese agents made full use of the "quick strike and quick withdrawal" tactic taught by our army, and after firing for 10 minutes, they quickly withdrew from the scene when they saw that the sneak attack had succeeded. After the Vietnamese agents completed the sneak attack, the groups retreated to the White Rock Cave on the original route, and after a simple treatment of the wounded, they quickly withdrew to the outside of the country according to the original infiltration route.
It should be said that this was a very successful special operation. What is disgraceful is that these tactics of the Vietnamese army were originally taught by our army, and this group of white-eyed wolves learned to bite their master in turn. Fortunately, the "Simberlin" radar was only slightly damaged, and only the power supply part was destroyed, and the enemy obviously did not know where the key point of this radar was. After a brief repair, the Simberlin radar continued to be put into combat. Afterwards, when our army was monitoring the enemy's radio, it was learned that the Vietnamese agents had never seen this high-tech radar at all, let alone known what it was, and they reported to the above that they had blown up one of our communication stations. Due to the ignorance of the Vietnamese army, Jin Gui's radar accidentally escaped the disaster.
After investigation, the sentry who changed the guard on the night of the incident woke up the soldier who should have been on duty and went to sleep, and did not return to the sentry to wait for the handover, but the sentry on the post only agreed and continued to sleep. As a result, the sentry was unattended, and the Vietnamese agents had the opportunity to infiltrate our army's position. Of course, the Vietnamese army still did not know that our army was equipped with this advanced radar, and in the subsequent 712 artillery battle, our artillery killed more than 3,000 Vietnamese troops and won a great victory.
The advanced radar positions were attacked, which greatly angered the Central Military Commission, and the company in charge of guarding the guards was severely dealt with. The company commander was directly demoted to a soldier, and the platoon leader and squad leader in charge of the guard were sentenced to 2 and 7 years in prison by the military court, respectively. Military orders are like mountains, and there is no room for negligence, and they should do their duty on the battlefield, otherwise they will cause great disasters due to small mistakes. At the same time, Deng Xiaoping, chairman of the Central Military Commission, who heard about the incident, also became angry: "Their agents can come in, why can't our scouts go over?" ”
In order to combat the arrogance of the Vietnamese special forces and protect border security, our army set up 15 regiment-level reconnaissance brigades to go to southern Xinjiang that month and began a five-year round war. The main tasks of our reconnaissance brigade are to fight against the Vietnamese army's raids and disturbances, reconnoiter and capture prisoners, patrol and guard, and ensure the safety of the flanks of the frontal battlefield of Lao Shan and Nhai Yin Shan. In the past 5 years, our army's reconnaissance units have penetrated deep into the enemy territory many times, reconnoitred a large amount of valuable intelligence, destroyed a large number of Vietnamese military targets, annihilated nearly 2,400 enemy troops, and emerged a large number of reconnaissance heroes such as Fu Kongliang. At the same time, a large number of backbone cadres have been trained in reconnaissance and counter-reconnaissance on the Sino-Vietnamese border, which has also become the prototype of our army's special operations.
