On February 9, the reporter learned from the Provincial Bureau of Statistics that according to the sampling survey data of the province's population changes, the total permanent population of Jiangsu Province at the end of 2021 was 85.054 million, an increase of 281,000 people over the end of 2020, with a growth rate of 0.33%, lower than the average annual growth level of 0.75% in 2010-2020, and the total population continued to maintain a low growth rate.
The data shows that the resident population of the province is 62.8889 million people living in cities and towns, and the population living in rural areas is 22.1651 million, and the urbanization rate of the permanent population is 73.94%, an increase of 0.5 percentage points compared with the end of 2020.
Among the 13 districted cities, the highest urbanization rate was in Nanjing (86.9%); the lowest was in Lianyungang (62.38%). The urbanization rate of more than 80% is Nanjing, Wuxi and Suzhou, respectively, and between 70% and 80%, zhenjiang, Changzhou, Yangzhou and Nantong are respectively. The urbanization rates of southern Jiangsu, central Jiangsu and northern Jiangsu were 82.57%, 70.54% and 64.79% respectively, which increased by 0.24, 0.58 and 0.69 percentage points respectively compared with the end of 2020.
