Many parents have this annoyance: before the age of 5, children often cause "dislocation" of the elbow joint due to an unintentional pull. So, why are children prone to elbow dislocation? And how to prevent it? Today (11th), the reporter consulted the rehabilitation doctor of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital about relevant issues.
Doctors revealed to reporters that among the elbow dislocation patients they received, most of them were children under 5 years old. He said that if the child has symptoms such as crying incessantly, slight flexion or extension of the elbow, unwillingness to move the arm or inability to lift the arm, it can basically be judged that the child's arm joint is dislocated.
Xu Zhaoxing, Chinese medicine physician of the Rehabilitation Department of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital: Some small actions of parents will cause the child to dislocate. For example, adults pull a child's hand up and down the stairs too hard, children turn over when the upper arm is not straightened out and pressed, etc. will lead to dislocation.
The ligaments of children under 5 years of age are still developing, and it is easy to dislocate or semi-dislocate with a gentle pull. Doctors suggest that parents should avoid roughly and directly pulling and pulling the child below the elbow joint; the movement should be gentle when dressing the child; when turning over, help the child straighten out the limbs to prevent dislocation caused by body compression. After the occurrence of elbow dislocation, it should be sent to the hospital for treatment in time, and the earlier the treatment, the better.
Xu Zhaoxing, Chinese medicine physician of the Rehabilitation Department of the Municipal Maternal and Child Health Hospital: After the child has dislocated, he can be sent to the rehabilitation department of our hospital for manual reduction immediately, and generally speaking, 3--5 minutes can be successfully reset. If dislocation occurs frequently, the affected limb can be fixed on the chest for 7-10 days with a triangular scarf after manual reduction, avoiding re-traction and causing habitual dislocation.
