Among them, Huawei ranked first with 6952 applications for five consecutive years.

According to the data, in 2021, mainland applicants filed 69,500 international patent applications through the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT), an increase of 0.9% year-on-year, ranking first in the list of applications for the third consecutive year.
In terms of technology, computer technology (9.9 per cent) accounted for the largest share of international patent applications under the PCT, followed by digital communications (9.0 per cent), medical technology (7.1 per cent), electrical machinery (6.9 per cent) and measurement (4.6 per cent). Among the top 10 technology sectors for applications, pharmaceutical applications grew the fastest at 12.8 per cent, followed by biotechnology (+9.5 per cent), computer technology (+7.2 per cent) and digital communications (+6.9 per cent).
It should be noted that since the operation of the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) in 1978, the United States has been at the top of the list, and in 2019, China surpassed the United States for the first time to become the world's largest source of patent applications.
