Yesterday, Yama Europe released a production version of the Ténéré 700 World Raid, a new version of Ténéré with a larger fuel tank and longer stroke suspension.
The first time we saw the Ténéré 700 World Raid was at EICMA last year, when it was equipped with a number of Technology Racing (GYTR) performance parts. Then the design drawings published by the European Union Intellectual Property Office proved that the car entered the mass production stage, until today's official release.
The World Raid version differs a lot from the base model, the Ténéré 700. The most significant change was the replacement of a single tank of 16 liters in the basic version with two side-mounted tanks, reaching a volume of 21 liters.
The design of the double-sided mounted fuel tank increases the range by 500 km while maintaining the same center of gravity distribution as the basic version. The new tank actually has a lower peak than the regular Ténéré 700's single tank, which allows Yamaha to provide better maneuverability for the World Raid, and the dual tank design also helps limit the left and right rocking of fuel when cornering.
Yamaha also redesigned the cushions as the fuel tank maintained its flat silhouette, and the World Raid version offered a flat, one-piece seat cushion similar to a rally car. According to Yamaha, the new seats make it easier for riders to move their bodies back and forth. The seat material is made of two types of leather that provide varying degrees of friction. The new seat height reaches 890mm, an increase of 15mm compared to the basic version of the Ténéré 700.
The reason for the height of the seat is that the new fork has a stroke of 228mm (compared to the normal version of 210mm) due to the longer, fully adjustable 43mm KYB fork, and the low-friction Kashima coating on the outer tube of the fork, which has a lighter internal part. The rear suspension has also been upgraded with an improved connecting rod design. The fully adjustable center rear suspension provides 220mm travel (20mm more than the basic version) and modifies damping and spring rate settings to improve off-road capability.
Brembo brakes are the same as other versions of the Ténéré 700, but World Raid gets three modes of anti-lock braking system. Mode 1 is designed for street use with ABS on both wheels. Mode 2 is designed for World Raid and only the front wheels offer ABS. Mode 3 is to turn off ABS completely.
Featuring a new 5-inch full-color meter, the Ténéré 700 World Raid features three different screen layouts and smartphone connectivity with USB Type A charging ports.
Other changes to the Ténéré 700 World Raid include a higher windshield with a detachable side deflector, a new front fairing, and a larger foot pedal with a detachable rubber insert. In addition, HLINS steers dampers that offer 18 different damping settings.
The engine is identical to the 689cc displacement CP2 twin-cylinder water-cooled engine used in the Ténéré 700 series, with a maximum horsepower of 73.4 hp and a maximum torque of 68 Nm. But World Raid got a new airbox, as well as a new radiator grille to improve cooling efficiency, which inherits the vertical shutters of the Yamaha motocross model to protect the radiator from debris, and the more rugged three-piece aluminum baffle also helps protect the engine from debris.
The Yamaha Ténéré 700 World Raid, available in two colours, midnight black and blue, is priced at £11,600, or about 99,600 yuan!
