CDPR announced and detailed an important new patch for Cyberpunk 2077, which is already live and the studio has apparently been working on this patch. The list of fixes, tweaks, and additions is huge, covering everything from AI behaviors to rebalancing skills, adding new elements to the world, and overhauling driving models. Night City is about to undergo some big changes.
Perhaps most important are those classified as "living cities" by CDPR, as there have been a lot of improvements to enemies and NPC AI. The patch notes basically list the fixes that non-player characters have made in the game. The following is a partial list excerpted from the full patch notes, with improvements to:
"Cover, position, reload, equip weapons, dodge, block and many other [...] Hit reaction and death animation [...] Enemies are now better at blocking and dodging (Kerenzikov) attacks [...] The melee and ranged combat behavior of different factions is further diversified: reckless, aggressive, balanced, defensive, and cautious [...] Followers now contribute more in combat [...] Many fixes and balance changes have been made to netrunner battles. ”
On a more macro level, crowd responses have also changed, and if you're out of place, certain NPCs are now willing to become aggressive and generally improve their response to players, better wayfinding, and (hopefully) less obvious go-to spawn. This also applies to NPC vehicles, which, in addition to visual improvements in turning and general movement in traffic, will now react to danger or being collided, and NPC passengers may now die in a car accident. If you're being chased by the police, you can choose to hide in the area they're looking for (previously you just had to distance yourself between them and you).
Notably, the game's driving model has been overhauled with a number of improvements across the board, including deeper clutch and transmission simulations, as well as a new "Burn Out Mode" built on the way of pulling donuts. "The old system only allowed for in-place rotation, now try adjusting the input and see what you can do!" Try the brake pads, donuts, drifts, or heated tires for drag race style launches with high grip boosts. So basically you can now turn at high speed and drift around them like a king.
In addition to these improvements, the open-world "Repairer" mission has also changed. V now stands with the repairman throughout Night City. As your prestige increases, new repairman shows will gradually appear, and the repairman will only offer you another set of shows after completing the previous set of shows in a given area. Complete all the gigs because the repair guild brings you special rewards (not including Mr. Hand – sorry, he just doesn't like you, choom. )”
A number of fixes have been made to individual tasks, as well as some of the tasks that have been added. Most notably, the relationship with Panam, Kerry, River, and Judy has passed and now has new information and interactions. "There are also new interactions in a loved one's home, including sleeping in bed with a specific partner." As Keanu himself said, good times are always good.
You can now rent four additional apartments by going to or using the in-game EZEstates website. This option unlocks after completing the Playing for Time mission, and interestingly "all apartments can be rented at the same time". Night City Landlord! All of your apartments will share the same storage room, and now you can also choose to customize your existing apartment with V.
In addition to the interior decoration, you can now adjust certain outward features in the mirrors of your apartment and safe house: hair, makeup, piercings, and more. There are other options in the role creator.
There are a bunch of new weapons and accessories, new poses in photo mode (including some of Johnny Silverhead's), economically related changes (increasing mission rewards, lowering the price of good things), rebalancing clothing models, tweaking to make the 'easy' difficulty more challenging, and introducing two new stats for V.
The final change was accompanied by a rebalancing of the welfare system and a slight rebalancing of the skill tree: this meant that basically all players would get free re-specification of their characters, as the patch would reset all skill points.
The UI overhaul saw improvements in map readability and functionality, as well as various new interfaces such as the Skip Time option, as well as improvements to notifications and pop-ups. There are also some additional PC-specific features:
- Added baseline mode. You can find it in settings > Run benchmarks.
- Added the Switch Walk option when playing with the keyboard. Press G during exploration to activate it. You can rebind the key in the settings.
- Enables transparent ray-traced reflections on gloss coatings of some cars.
- Enable Variable Rate Shading (VRS). This feature improves rendering performance and visual quality by varying the shading rate of different areas of the frame. Available only on compatible hardware.
- Fixed an issue that prevented resolution scaling on AMD graphics cards when ray tracing was enabled.
This patch is huge, so we'll end up with some more random additions: V can now smash the body through broken glass; throwing knives are no longer lost after each throw, but return after cooling; players can reject non-essential locals and mute NCPD dispatchers; "To give players more breathing space to experience the mission scene and the world itself, drastically reducing the number of loot around them", and finally, "adding some secrets to Night City that players can discover." ”
